Suppose the Republicans win?

No we are not. We are engaged in a war to test if this nation, or any nation conceived in Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal can long endure.

Who are you at war with? How will you know when you have won or lost? I seriously doubt that any of you liberal/socialists know what liberty actually means. You use and abuse it, but you don't have any real appreciation or respect for it.

Another clueless right winger who believes all independents and Democrats are liberal socialists, or better yet, communists. :eusa_whistle:

Majority rules in Senate. No Super Majority needed to move business along. Right now you need 60 votes for cloture and suspension of the filibuster.

Each house has 60 days to have a committee vote on bills passed by the other house. No more not-scheduling votes. If your party doesn't like it; work it out in joint conferences.

I could get with a balanced budget amendment as long as it's tied to the GDP. Having a balanced budget does very little if taxes can be raised to balance it.

The super majority in the Senate is a definite and necessary concept in our form of government. It was designed to stop the majority from stomping over the minority, unless they had a cause strong enough to gain bipartisan support. Just because it hinders your efforts to subvert this nation and convert it into another socialist utopia, is no reason to discard it.
It subverts any business from being done; period.

You should first consider that this nation survived for over two hundred years, without the new laws that you think are so important. If we had a little more discipline from our politicians, we would not have thousands of federal laws and regulations, scattered through thousands of pieces of legislation. So many in fact, that the government cannot even keep track of them. We need more filibusters, not less.
The world has changed. Did you miss the memo? More filibusters to stop any action on the Congress? Frankly, your statement is stupid.

I can agree with you on the failure of party leaders to bring up proposed legislation for action. However, the body has the power to force his/her action, if the need is seen by both parties. Once again, we get back to bipartisanship. Maybe Obama made a mistake when he told Republicans that it was his way or the highway. They have shown him that he cannot do it on his own, or even with the support of his own party.

Yeah, the Republicans were welcoming his programs with open arms. Got it. :confused:

I seriously doubt that many conservatives/Republicans know what 'liberty' actually means either. The GOP we know today supports and perpetuates just as many "big government" initiatives as the Democrats - like the recent NDAA 2012 act (bipartisian support), or using the government to define marriage (you all must be good little christians!), or using the government to police abortions, or using the government to spy on its citizens, just to name a few.

There's really no true "small government" party anymore, and I suggest that while you go off on "liberals" not knowing what liberty means you also include those who support the current GOP as well.

You don't know me well enough to know who I support, or do not support. I am a conservative first, and a Republican second. A conservative by choice, and a Republican because there is no where else to go. I am also a practical person who realizes that once a socialist program such as social security, medicare, or medicaid becomes the norm, there is no going back. We have to live with them, but we damn sure don't need to be creating any more that we will have to live with.

I believe in small government, especailly at the federal level, for a very simple reason. Government eats liberty, and the larger the government, the more liberty it eats. Every new law that is created, takes a tad more of our liberty away, and there will come a time when big government has it all.

We are in a very radical and incongruous position right now.

Isn't it fitting that Obama is the President taking up the mantel for Lincoln.

Lincoln tried to unite a country. O has divided through his insistent class warfare drumbeat. Although O shelters himself from race, his surrogates cruise headlong into flinging every racist card imaginable.

Is that the class warfare of the rich getting richer while the poor get poorer, and the middle class gets poorer? Just wondering? I have no problem with the rich getting as rich as they possibly can, so long as it is not at the expense of the rest of society.

No, not all, but enough to keep the fires of socialism burning brightly. BTW, you use that "all" very loosely.

Nothing changes? If the Republicans win, and gain in both the House and Senate there will be changes - radical changes.

Have you listened to the four candidates for the R nomination?

Santorum wants to attack Iran, no discussion on the consequences of such an act and he would take us back to the 10th Century;

Romney wants to repeal Obamacare, no discussion on why reform was necessary or what will replace Obamacare - the classic empty suit;

Paul wants to take us back to 1830 and put into effect the ideas of Calhoun;

And, Gingrich promises $2.50 a gallon gas, a balanced budget and a free ride to Mars.

Four demagogues, three reactionaries, two charlatans and one will be the nominee of the GOP. The Best and the Brightest of the GOP. Pitiful.

Do yourself a favor, Catcher...before you award Barry Lincoln's "mantel"...how about waiting until Obama actually does something exceptional? I know that his getting a Nobel Peace Prize just for showing up at the Oval Office has led you to believe that Obama is a "wunderkind" but the reality of the situation is...he's the guy who voted "Present" all those times back in Illinois when tough issues were addressed and now has a bad habit of punting every tough decision down the political road for someone else to deal with.

Obama = Lincoln? Now that's funny stuff.

That may be authoritarian government, but it's not big government. Obamacare is big government because it creates hundreds of new departments, causes tens of thousands of bureaucrats to get hired, and spends $trillions of dollars. How much does the DOMA legislation cost the taxpayers? Not a single dime.

There's really no true "small government" party anymore, and I suggest that while you go off on "liberals" not knowing what liberty means you also include those who support the current GOP as well.

There is, but it never wins elections. Most Americans don't really want small government. They want security, not freedom.

Democrats are practically all socialists now. I can't think of a single Democrat in Congress who doesn't qualify as one.

That's MR. Catcher to you. There is some similarity to what Lincoln faced on taking the oath of office and what Obama faced - a house divided. There is no similarity to Lincoln and the four clowns running for the Republican nomination, or any conservative Republican. Lincoln was pragmatic, today's Republicans are all about being more conservative than the next guy and are unable to define a problem without blaming Obama.

And Lincoln jumped out of a window in Illinois while in the State Legislature to try and stop a vote. What's your point?

True.

And any of them as president would be making judicial appointments, a frightening prospect indeed.

The problem with that is greatest threat to our civil liberties comes from the state and local governments, with regard to the right to privacy, due process, and equal access to the laws.

The efforts of conservatives are pointless as they seek to ‘free’ citizens from the ‘tyranny’ of the Federal government only to subject them to the tyranny of the state.

How apropo. Lincoln, due to incompetence and an unwillingness to listen to his advisors, propelled us into a civil war that witnessed the deaths of 1 million soldiers and civilians (more then we lost in BOTH WWI and WWII, plus the Korean War AND the Vietnam War, in fact all the wars we've fought since then). The destruction of half of the country and the first major abrogation of our civil liberties.

Obama has taken to ruling by edict, taking over the control of religious entities (by edict), defining the killing of US citizens who have not been convicted of anything but still condemned to death as "a process" which is the same as "due process" and I can go on and on.

Yep, Obama is a worthy successor to Lincoln.

Lincoln also suspended habeas corpus and took over 13,000 political prisoners. The SC had argued against him on this.

No, just a criminal.
