Sad to see that some think it's funny when US troops commit suicides. Did you know that amount of soldiers who committed suicide in Afghanistan is 50% higher than casualties during fights with Taliban? My buddy, his name was Jack, killed himself after weeks of deep depression caused by the Command. They ordered to kill Taliban militants and then soldiers who risked their lives became scapegoats for supposedly killing civilians, or sometimes big shots have negotiations with Taliban and prohibit return fire and respond to Taliban provocations. And drugs, guarding opium fields can drive everyone crazy because our troops came to Afghanistan with a mission to bring peace and democracy, but they forced to do nasty things... and tempers get frayed... Troops see their country betrayed them and the only thing they can do in action area is put a bullet in the head...

yeap it should have been done in ONE year and then we left the middle east.

Instead Bush went to Iraq on lies for oil profits leaving this country to fester with minimal troops.

Im so glad we are leaving this country soon so this decade long mess will be over.

No more cowboy foriegn policy EVER

I really don't plan on youresponsding because you are one of, if not THE, biggest coward in this forum.

Military suicides hit all-time high...
2012 military suicides hit a record high of 349
Jan 14,`13 WASHINGTON (AP) -- Suicides in the U.S. military surged to a record 349 last year, far exceeding American combat deaths in Afghanistan, and some private experts are predicting the dark trend will grow worse this year.
The Pentagon has struggled to deal with the suicides, which Defense Secretary Leon Panetta and others have called an epidemic. The problem reflects severe strains on military personnel burdened with more than a decade of combat in Afghanistan and Iraq, complicated by anxiety over the prospect of being forced out of a shrinking force. Pentagon figures obtained Monday by The Associated Press show that the 349 suicides among active-duty troops last year were up from 301 the year before and exceeded the Pentagon's own internal projection of 325. Statistics alone do not explain why troops take their own lives, and the Pentagon's military and civilian leaders have acknowledged that more needs to be done to understand the causes.

Last year's total is the highest since the Pentagon began closely tracking suicides in 2001. It exceeds the 295 Americans who died in Afghanistan last year, by the AP's count. Some in Congress are pressing the Pentagon to do more. "This is an epidemic that cannot be ignored," Sen. Patty Murray, D-Wash., said Monday. "As our newest generation of service members and veterans face unprecedented challenges, today's news shows we must be doing more to ensure they are not slipping through the cracks."

Military suicides began rising in 2006 and soared to a then-record 310 in 2009 before leveling off for two years. It came as a surprise to many that the numbers resumed an upward climb this year, given that U.S. military involvement in Iraq is over and the Obama administration is taking steps to wind down the war in Afghanistan. "Now that we're decreasing our troops and they're coming back home, that's when they're really in the danger zone, when they're transitioning back to their families, back to their communities and really finding a sense of purpose for themselves," said Kim Ruocco, whose husband, Marine Maj. John Ruocco, killed himself between Iraq deployments in 2005. She directs a suicide prevention program for a support group, Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors, or TAPS.

The Army, by far the largest of the military services, had the highest number of suicides among active-duty troops last year at 182, but the Marine Corps, whose suicide numbers had declined for two years, had the largest percentage increase - a 50 percent jump to 48. The Marines' worst year was 2009's 52 suicides. The Air Force recorded 59 suicides, up 16 percent from the previous year, and the Navy had 60, up 15 percent. All of the numbers are tentative, pending the completion later this year of formal pathology reports on each case. Suicide prevention has become a high Pentagon priority, yet the problem persists. "If you have a perfect storm of events on the day with somebody who has high risk factors, it's very difficult to be there every moment, fill every crack, and we just have to continue to be aware of what the risk factors are," Ruocco said.

The fact the the Democrats went along with it makes them reprehensible, true, but it does nothing to absolve 'W' & Co.

The report did not include the break down by Military Occupational Specialty.

Would the relationship between Combat MOS's and suicides be the highest rates?

One would expect so. Since the Air Force would have the lowest number of Combat MOS's, the question needs to be answered.

Obama has been president for 4 yrs .:doubt:

These suicides are provoked by forlornness of the Afghan war. Soldiers kill Taliban militants, but then they come in bigger numbers. That would drag anyone into depression that ends with the last breath. US government and command are responsible for that, because we shouldn't go to Afghan. Two major reasons are control of drug traffic and arms sale. Yes, war is great way to make money, blood money. And our soldiers gave away their lives or were forced to commit suicide so big shots from Washington could line their pockets. Looking for an enemy is just distraction from inner American problems which state-mongers don't want to solve because then they will loose their dirty profits... That's why the dark trend will grow worse... nobody is going to leave Afghanistan...

If we had not stayed in Afganistan then OBL would not have been found.

we found him in Packistan becasue he could NOT safely hide in Afganistan.

THis would NEVER have been solved in the mind of Americans if OBL was NOT dead.

EVERYONE Bush and team LIED to about the Iraq war are NOT responsible for the lies they were told.

The suicides are partly because the troops are tied up in a complicated web of rules and regulations preventing them from carrying out their missions. They are partly because there is a concentrated effort to eliminate the most qualified from combat and put in the most successfully feminized.

I think it's funny when the military is turned upside down by a Marine Sgt. who pissed on the corpse of an enemy and I think it's funny that the fat asses in the Pentagon who probably never heard a shot fired in anger start calling the enemy "Taliban fighters" in order to jinn up anger at a Marine who is doing a tough job under tough conditions. Maybe the high suicide rate is connected to the callus way the Military is treated by an administration that hates them.

He's a coward because he cites truth? Actually, you are the coward for not thinking critically about what took place, allowing your preference for nationalistic sentiments to override your abilities to be rational when assessing these events an their causes.
