My mother-in-law's recipe. My husband can't have Christmas without them!

1 cup butter-flavored Crisco
1 1/2 cups sugar

*Cream these together.

3 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla

*Add & mix well.

4 1/2 cups flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda

*Combine and add gradually to sugar mixture.
*Roll out to just shy of 1/4 inch thick. Cut out with cookie cutters.
*Bake at 375, 8-10 minutes, until faintly browned. Allow cookies to cool completely.

ICING(makes enough for a double batch of cookies)
2 lbs. powdered sugar (about 7 cups)
1/2 cup butter-flavored Crisco
2/3 cup milk
2 tsp. vanilla
food coloring

*Combine all ingredients. Mix until smooth. Spread generously over cookies.
*Lay cookies out until icing has hardened a little. Stack with layers of wax paper between them.
*Allow cookies to rest a few hours or overnight. The icing will make the cookies nice and soft.
