My Mom started going to AA when I was in H.S. I went to some of her meetings and saw people who had drank themselves into actual brain damage. A few were damaged beyond just slurring their words and couldn't even walk straight, like they were palsied.

Both my folks were heavy boozers. It contributed to my dad's heart attack ack ack ack ack ack, and turned mom's personality into a Jeckyl-Hyde drama.
