And, yes, they are taking advantage of it. Another example of sheer hypocrisy. Government officials at both state and federal levels apparently view themselves as royalty, above other people, rather than what they are intended to be - public servants.

It's bad enough this free pass is still on the books. What is really sad is the government officials actually benefitting from it when they drink and drive.

The law is certainly worth changing, although to be fair there is no evidence that I can find that lawmakers have successfully employed this immunity (which only applies for driving drunk on the way to or from their official duties: Minnesota student group aims to end legislative immunity from drunk driving arrests - Minneapolis News - The Blotter).
