student escorted out of class for not saying the pledge

A school spokesman said Tuesday that the teacher's actions were a clear violation of the school's regulations, which are based on state law. The teacher, who also has not been identified by either side, will have to apologize to the student, spokesman Dana Tofig said.

"The policy is very, very clearly stated," Tofig said. "Our teachers are expected to know the students' rights and responsibilities. . . . A mistake has been made, and it will be rectified."

Having children stand up and recite a "pledge of allegiance" every school day is ridiculous to begin with. People can decide for themselves where their loyalties lie when they're adults.

The ACLU got it ruled several years back that we could not force children to say or even learn the Pledge of Allegiance.

Just another reason I can't stand the ACLU.

Call me simple, but it's tradition in my book .....
Its use in public schools is tantamount to indoctrination. Moreover, it was created a century or so after this:

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

you hate them because people aren't forced to do something daily in a free country???

Tradition is freedom of speech. Having the police escort someone from the classroom for not saying something is just not right.
Tradition is also Freedom of Religion. No American should be punished for refusing to vow that their country is under a god.

And that was added sixty years after the original pledge was created.

I seldom use the word hate. I can't stand them because they always seem to work against freedom of religion, and they work against the protection of the flag.
