Any time you call an 800 number (for a credit card, banking, charter communications, health and other insurance, computer help desk, etc.) and you find you are talking to a foreign customer service representative, probably in India, Philippines, etc., consider doing the following:

After you connect and you realize the customer service representative is not American -- ask if you aren't sure about it but be polite. This is not about hurting anyone's feelings or being obnoxious. Just politely inquire if you are speaking with a non-American in a foreign country and politely insist on speaking to a representative in the United States of America.

The foreign rep might suggest talking to his/her manager but, again, politely ask to speak to an American representative in the U.S.A. You will, usually within one minute if not immediately, be connected to a representative in the U.S. -- BECAUSE THAT IS THE LAW!

If enough Americans did this it unavoidably will impact the the problem of job outsourcing and require the hiring of more American service representatives to deal with the demand.

I'm hoping to convince at least ten others to not only follow this advice but to copy this message, pass it on, and ask others to do the same.

Again, there is no reason to be rude to foreign-based phone reps. They are only trying to earn some money. But this is a valid concern for we Americans to take steps against outsourcing of American jobs.
