'Straight From The Horse's Mouth'

It's Democratic Communism dontcha know.

Seems redundant, as the Democrat Party stands for the same things the Communist Party did.

You have no idea. Lenin decided that Communism would only work if it was one government world wide and that government was Communist like Karl Marx wrote about. Lenin understood that first the world had to be conquered and converted and then, and only then, could communism work. So he devised a way to use the Military to take over smaller, weaker countries and install a Military Regime. Stalin was just better at it and much more ruthless. We will never know what would happened since it was intercepted by WWII. After Stalin died, the USSR started to change. It developed in to an Oligarchy which had more to do with corrupt unchecked Capitalism. Communism was never achieved. Today, it's still an Oligarchy and just as corrupt. Hate to break it to you, their unchecked Capitalism is more honest than ours. They admit it exists and accept it as life. In the US we deny it exists but the country is run by much of the same types of people.

Your use of Communism is an outdated term once used freely in the late 40s and throughout the 50s when someone or some group wanted to denigerate another group of person. For instance, the main reason the Birchers originally formed was to try and bring Eisenhower down as a Communist. You need to get with the program. Today, the name Socialist is used instead.

OMG!

So you're ....what....100 years old?

The 'it'll work this time!!!' argument went out with bloomers and dial telephones.

And, today being the birthday of that departed soul, his words on the issue should be considered dispositive.

Boris Yeltsin
PRESIDENT OF RUSSIA
BORN
February 1, 1931
Soviet Union
(Born on this day)
DIED
April 23, 2007 (aged 76)
Moscow, Russia

In September of 1991, the President of Russia, Boris Yeltsin, was asked about the history and future of Communism:
“One of their more dramatic responses came to a question by Los Angeles actor Ben Stein, who asked whether the two leaders believed any country should live under communism.

Yeltsin answered first: "This experiment which was conducted on our soil was a tragedy for our people and it was too bad that it happened on our territory. It would have been better if the experiment had happened in some small country, to make it clear that it was a Utopian idea, although a beautiful idea."

Gorbachev said history has shown that "that model has failed which was brought about in our country. And I believe that this is a lesson not only for our people but for all peoples.” GORBACHEV, YELTSIN SAY COMMUNISM FAILED USSR

You don't believe the President of the former Soviet Union, comrade????

Wow, another "Hey,look over there" response from you. Under Yeltsin, it wasn't communism at all. It was an Oligarchy like it is today. We share more with Russia than any of us care to admit.
A common view was when Russia was the Soviet Union and we as the United States were moving towards each other. They became a bit more capitalistic in ways and we became more socialistic in ways. Today we have lost a lot of rights. And as the old Soviet Union does not exist anymore we seem to be heading towards what they were before communism fell.

American has shifted between Socialism and Fascism long before those two were named. We are a mix of both and that's what makes the Federal Republic work. To give give you an idea, during the 1890s, if the noun Socialism was invented (it wasn't yet) the US would have been very close to it. But it swung to the right because it was just too unhealthy to be that far left. It self corrected. During the 1920s, America was close to a Fascist State. It swung too far like it always does. Hoover had a lot to do with it. And so did Congress at the time. It didn't get a chance to self regulate. Hoover and his bunch screwed things up so bad it brought on a world wild Depression. If you think it was bad in the United States in 1930, check out Germany. People weren't just hungry there, they were dying. And guess who jumped up and said, "Only I can fix this". The depression isn't the only factor but it certainly was a contributor.

During FDRs time, it was very socialist. But starting in 1946, American started to self correct. And by the time Ike took over as President, the US went into a pretty good golden age (for white people which made up almost the whole population). But the Poor White Trash worked but the wages were terrible in the 50s. In the 60s that was corrected until about 1980. But at least the poor weren't starving for the most part. In the 60s, the NEW and IMproved Democratic Party took over. Actually, Kennedy didn't do a whole hell of a lot on his own. He took Ikes programs and expanded on them. Johnson did as well. Except Johnson entered us into Vietnam as an active combatant instead of the Advisors that Eisenhower created and Kennedy continued. Sometime around this time period both parties stated to drift. One to the right and the other to the left. By the 1990s, it was two warring camps. And the majority of us that were neither extreme right nor extreme left have been held captive ever since.

So when you say it's all the Democrats fault, own up.

Perhaps you have time for a lesson, a remediation, before your indigestion....

1. Dennis J. Dunn writes in "Caught Between Roosevelt & Stalin: America's Ambassadors to Moscow." that FDR believed in a theory of convergence that applied to the USSR and the US, i.e., that capitalism and Communism would each take on characteristics of the other. They would converge. FDR's contribution toward convergence was expanding the powers and reach of centralized government.

a. Dunn explains FDR's thinking: convergence theory "held that Soviet Russia and the United States were on convergent paths, where the United States was moving from laissez-faire capitalism to welfare state socialism and the Soviet Union was evolving from totalitarianism to social democracy."

b. Since FDR himself had moved the United States from laissez-faire capitalism to welfare state socialism....well, FDR was half right.

But....if only one half is doing all the converging....it is simply capitulation.

2. And so, Dunn explains, FDR's dogmatic belief in a point of convergence up the road is what allowed Roosevelt to discount and overlook all the violent contradictory evidence, the spying, the manipulation, the justification for the brutality of genocidal famines and gulags and every act of police-state repression.

The theory is what made FDR, if not a participant, at least an accomplice. In our name.
He was a vassal of Stalin's.

3. In memoires, both Representative Martin Dies, [p. 144-148] an earlier incarnation of Senator Joseph McCarthy, and, on the other side, Roosevelt ally Cardinal Spellman, [p. 222-225] both describe conversations with Roosevelt in which he speaks of his belief in convergence of the two nations. Dunn describes an interview with Averell Harriman, in which Harriman "emphasized the importance of the theory of convergence in explaining Roosevelt's policies."

4. "Adopting the "pseudoprofound theory of convergence," Rooseveltians claimed that the Soviet Union "was moving ineluctably toward democracy" (pp. 3-4). The author alleges that "moral relativism" prompted Roosevelt to mislead the American public and ignore his foreign policy advisors in order to prove that Stalin was an evolving democrat, not "a genocidal megalomaniac guided by the higher power of revolutionary inevitability ..." (p. 4, 6).

In contrast, "Traditionalists" rejected the theory of convergence. ... they viewed Stalin as "a murderer, a liar, and a vicious opponent of the United States and of pluralism generally." Imbued with "absolute morality," Traditionalists wanted Roosevelt to compel the Soviets to adopt democracy and "the minimum standards of moral behavior that were outlined in the world's principal religions and moral codes." These pleas, however, went unheeded as Roosevelt remained intent on pursuing "his policy of uncritical friendship toward Stalin" (pp. 8-9)."

During the 1920s, America was close to a Fascist State. It swung too far like it always does. Hoover had a lot to do with it. And so did Congress at the time. It didn't get a chance to self regulate. Hoover and his bunch screwed things up so bad it brought on a world wild Depression.

Astonishingly simplistic and utterly wrong. If anything, America was recovering from the fascist state created by Woodrow Wilson's disastrous war in Europe.

That one is truly a moron.

Yes, and it swung too far fascist along with the incompetence of Hoover and his merry band. The US has swung back and forth since the day it was created. So when someone screams "Socialist" at someone else and then feigns wounding when you call them a Fascist, guess what, their both right. But neither is as extreme as the other one claims.

When Capitalist become the driving factor (and they were in the 20s) Fascism usually accompanies it. When the Government intervenes too much in business then Socialism usually accompanies it. The idea is to find a happy medium between Fascism, Government Control AND Capitalism and Socialism. The crap I see today is the two extremist factions are at war with each other and the rest of us are just collateral damage.

Nothing could be further from Fascism than capitalism.

"Gemeinnutz geht vor Eigennutz" ("The community comes before the individual") concretizes the collectivist belief that individuals have no rights and that "the greater good" is the only standard of value. Under such a system, man is not an end to himself, only a tool to be sacrificed for the Führer, autocrat or ruling mob.

Only capitalism regards man as a sovereign individual with an inalienable right to his own life, liberty and pursuit of happiness. Government recognition and protection of individual rights is the hallmark of a moral, peaceful, productive society.

Republicans who can do so should hop over to the DNC primaries and cast a vote for Bernie. Nothing would do more to insure a Trump second term than a Bernie nomination. I fully supported him last time. This time he is too old and too DNC to be elected.

Honestly, any of those Democratic candidates would mean a sure win for Trump. I'm just not seeing what they have to offer me.

I won't be voting for either side, but I do expect Trump to win

So the age of the candidate is the determining factor?

Another deep thinker checks in.

Yes it is a major factor. Would you want an 80 year old with a history of heart attacks performing your abortion?
