Sometimes, a failed president realizes that he shouldn't wait for elections: example - Nixon, Johnson.

Nixon was not really a failed president in most cases, he was just insane. He would not have resigned if he did not think he would be brought up on charges. Johnson chose not to run for reelection because he did not have the support of his party and his health was failing. His doctor told him that he would not make it through another 4 year term. He did live for another 5 years after the election, but the stress of office probably would have ended his life sooner.

To reinforce CA and AmericanFirst:

S&P specifically cited the government inability to operate as the chief reason that the downgrade occurred. That means that it was downgraded because the government as a whole seems broken. Part of that was also the fact that some were calling for allowing the default to occur. Yes that was SOME of the Tea Partiers calling for that but that was by far the minority and that was their contribution to this debacle. The other was the failure to come to a deal in a reasonable amount of time. For someone to hoist this on the political party that they do not like is disingenuous at best and an outright lie at worst. It was a failure of ALL government because it was both houses AND the President that failed to come to an agreement. Take the hackery out of this and wake up to the fact we need real change, not demagoguery.
