Steele: I'm trying to move an elephant mired in its own muck

Remember back in September when the Republicans were rooting for a DNC civil war between Obama and Clinton and some even hinted that Hillary might not cede to Obama during the convention?

This is the revenge of the Democrats. It's time for them to root for a Republican civil war.

“I’m trying to move an elephant that’s become mired in its own muck,” Mr. Steele said in an interview last week in his sunlit Capitol Hill office, pausing whenever he appeared on the giant television close by his desk.

I welcome a GOP civil war. Its' been controlled by the liberal country-club types for way too long, and ripe for a conservative takeover, like when Newt was in charge.

Bingo. There's radical, and there's too radical. It's hard to attract voters when you have absolutely no connection with their ideals. That's something the Republicans are learning now.

They need to cut their extremists loose.

So should all parties.

I don't disagree with you. And I have many issues with the far left of the democratic party. But the Dems arern't floundering because of their wingnuts right now and this thread was about what Steele needs to do.

I disagree. Pelosi and Reid are ruining the party's golden opportunity, and it won't take long for the American people to turn their backs to their shenanigans.

they need to be stomped a little. but i don't think it's at critical mass. Mostly, I think they're the right wing's evil-doers du jour.

Mr Steele is a stand up smart individual! He would be someone I would have absolutely no problem casting my vote for him for President.

Rush is a douche-bag elitist!

I'm not sure what anyone would attempt to heal that party. It's best to let it die.
So, create a one party system?

Let the religious right keep the Republican party, and let the fiscal conservatives all move to the Libertarian party.
And allow the Democrats to rule America! Great plan!

Or, better yet, why can't the moderates create the third party that combines free liberties and fiscal responsibility?
Good plan

I think Michael Steele is doing a great job.

He's down with winning the hip hop vote, and he's totally down with keeping it real.

there already is a party like that
its called the Libertarian party

You know why the Libertarians are having trouble attracting Republicans?

Your party is too intellectual.

You guys don't offer sound byte explanations for extremely complex problems.

That and so many of you guys are atheists that you scare a lot of the Republican fold.

You are, in many ways, what the Republican Party was like in the early 60s.

Too smart to attract enough voters.

Remember the Republicans were limping along before they became the party of Fundies.

So the Republican Party rather suddenly found the baby Jesus and it gained market share.

All you guys have to do is abandon much of what makes you guys Libertarians (brains) and you too can get that segement of the population which migrated to the Rs.
first off, i'm NOT a libertarian
and second, you dont have a fucking clue what republicans are if you think that describe us

You joining?
nope, i am not an anarchist

A lot of the people who call themselves libertarian are actually people who simply hate government. It's why they fail and shouldn't be running government.

if they did that, what would they have left
they consistantly only get about 2% of the vote now

True.

But I know some Libertarians who actually are very sensible, too.

They sound a lot like lefties democrats on many issues except for their viseral hatred of social welfare and taxes.

Some of then really do understand that the big swindle really is in that unholy alliance of both parties and SOME players of the monied class.

Some of our resident Libertarians are nobody's fools, they just disagree with people like you and I about the quality of mercy.
