I happen to live in the UK - I know their system. I know ours. The Brit system is ok for what it is but the facts are that it is not some damned utopian system that the left make it out to be.

No one makes it out to be a "utopian" system. No system ever could be, but it seems to be working a damn sight better than our capitalist only, profit driven "disease care" system. And he's never had to wait for anything, nor anyone he knows. I'm calling bullshit.

Call what you want, it doesn't change the facts. It is, in fact, no better than our system. I pay into their system - but I have private health care insurance because I wouldn't use their system EVER. I'm not saying the US system is perfect, but anyone who thinks that the Brits have it better is mistaken.

The British NHS is the 4th largest employer in the world. For a country of 60 million. Now, you think what that would look like in the US. It is rife with problems. It is a massive money pit and no matter how much it gets, it needs more.

The French have a pretty good system - part 'government funded' and topped up by private insurance. Their system is amazingly efficient - I've seen that one up close too. Downside, every taxpayer (from my understanding so don't quote it as a fact) is that each taxpayer pays 20% of their income into their system. Expensive. But it is good.

Then, Charles Krauthhammer, a man who is supposed to be a "Republican Intellectual" said that this bill creates government panels that will decide who lives and who dies. Just like in England where they are called "Nice" panels.

Not a word about Seniors getting free checkups. By the way, First Serge said that seniors don't pay for checkups anyway. My friend who was visiting pays 10 for a visit and 30 for a specialist. And that is only for a checkup. To get the specialist you have to see a doctor, that's 40 total. That can be mighty hard for someone on medicare on a fixed income.

I watched the Brett Baire report while making dinner this evening. On that show I learned about the threats of violence to several Congressmen and and an obesenity laced phone message for Stupak.

That part of your post is a lie on its face.

The panel discussion was just that. As a part of the discussion, the panmel bemoaned the fact that much of the particulars of the bill is left to beurocrats who are not elected and who will interpret language of the bill to implement the actual programs unleashed under the bill. It was in this sense that the referance to NICE was made.

I missed the part about the illegal aliens. May have been pullling the beef tips out of the oven.

Out of the 2,685 pages in the bill, was the cost of check ups for seniors the only thing they left out? It is a 15 minute discussion. Obviously, a conspiracy.

My son lives in Germany (another "free" health care country) and his Brother just returned from there. nearly 60% of his pay went to taxes. Free healthcare that didn't figure out he was a diabetic after he lost 70 Lbs in less than 2 years without dieting. First check up here in the states under our capitalist system he was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and already had nerve damage in his feet and hands from it.

People call it 'free' health care - in FACT, it is 'free at the point of delivery'.... because we are all paying for it.

Downside of the UK system.... it can take months to get standard treatment, it can take days to see a doctor, it funds non essential 'health', such as abortions, IVF treatment, gender reassignment, etc. but people can't get life saving drugs for cancer. The hospitals are filthy, the waste within the system is ENORMOUS, the nurses and doctors work in crap conditions for crap pay and they pay $100k to 'PR consultants' and 'adminstrators'. The system is collapsing.

And..... IT IS NOT FREE.
