The meeting between the members of the national dialogue’s external liaison subcommittee and Sudan Revolutionary Front leaders in the Ethiopian capital in the presence of African Union High-level Implementation Panel (AUHIP), Thabo Mbeki is substantial development amid the declination of the Darfuri rebel groups.

Sudan’s national dialogue committee known as 7+7, comprised of government parties and opposition ones.

The delegation drew Head of the Reform Now Movement (RNM) Ghazi Salah Al-Din Al Atabani and cabinet minister and member of the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP), Ahmed Saad Omer.

The SRF’s stand to join the national dialogue process which began on April 6 in Khartoum is acceptable, but the rebel group has no right to impose different views, because it has no the political weight compared with other political forces in Sudan.

Moreover, SRF is Ugandan, South Sudanese and Western creation. It has used
Kampala as its head office; therefore the rebels may constitute threat to any successful national efforts to bring about political settlement in Sudan under the Ugandan hostile stand.

Unless the national dialogue mechanism deals cautiously with SRF, the entire process will be at risk. SRF has wickedly succeeded to engage the leader of the National Umma Party, Al Saddiq Al Mahdi to sign Paris Declaration to brighten its image inside Sudan and abroad.

National Dialogue mechanism, hence, should be aware of the implications to surface due to the involvement of SRF rebels in the process. Backed by foreign circles, SRF rebels may embark on aborting the entire process. If the they are really interested in the dialogue, they should abide by the democratic practice and voice of the majority.

Sudan Liberation Movement-North made a big mistake when it engaged the Darfuri rebel groups in SRF, the umbrella coalition. The issues of the Darfuri armed groups and Sudan Liberation Movement-North is quite different.

The Doha forum is dedicated mainly to sponsor the talks on the Darfuri crisis while SLM-N issue is to be negotiated in Addis Ababa under the patronage of AUHIP, led by the former South African President, Thabo Mbeki.
