After years of lambasting the Bush administration for its use of warrantless wiretaps, the Democratic leadership of the House has pushed through a bill that legalizes the very activity that they have criticized and immunizes telecom companies who broke the law in facilitating this illegal activity.

    Glenn Greenwald - Salon.com

Not only does this reflect badly on the Constitution and eviscerate the 4th Amendment, but it does so at the behest of the Democratic leadership (although the majority of Democrats in the House actually voted against the measure). I don't believe it reflects on anyone quite so badly as the Democratic nominee however, who just months ago promised to filibuster any bill that grants immunity to the telecom companies, but has since changed his position, indicating he will vote for the measure. Is there any weaker, more cowardly group of people in politics than the leadership of the Democratic party?

I'm not sure, fellow frogs, but is it my imagination, or is the water in this pot getting warmer?

The Crypt: Dems who flipped on FISA immunity see more telecom cash - Politico.com

I guess this provides part of the explanation, although I believe that the Democratic leadership is also concerned that discovery in lawsuits would show their complicity with the original warrantless wiretap program.

This really made me mad when I heard about it. Spineless, indeed.

Sad and pathetic... they make me sick sometimes. It's one thing to not be able to override one of Bush's vetos. It's another to hand him whatever he wants.

There's no reason for it. The guy has the lowest approval rating ever. Who are they impressing, the 23% of dead-enders?

And yet you will vote for them all. And you will continue to claim the Republicans are all to blame for everything. I can hear it now.

Next year with a Democratic Congress and Democratic President you all will be claiming everything is still Bush's fault. And when we remind you that during Bush's first year you same turds claimed he was to blame for everything you will poo poo and make excuses.

It becomes less likely that I'll vote for Obama every day. My rep voted the correct way on this legislation but I doubt my senator will.

The alternative is usually certain death, so to speak.

If, as you say, liberals just blame Republicans for everything, then how do you explain this thread and the responses from liberals?

Obama. That doesn't stop me from criticizing him though. It also doesn't stop me for blaming the Democrats when they do something wrong. I guess I (and Ravi and Jillian) must be exceptions to the liberal strawman that you like to talk about.
