44 - GOP Rep. Bachus: 'Sarah Palin cost us control of the Senate'

By Emi Kolawole
Alabama Rep. Spencer Bachus (R) told members of the South Shelby Chamber of Commerce that former Alaska governor and vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin was probably the reason for the GOP's failure to take control in the U.S. Senate in last week's election.

"The Senate would be Republican today except for states (in which Palin endorsed candidates) like Christine O'Donnell in Delaware," Bachus said. "Sarah Palin cost us control of the Senate."

According to the Shelby County Reporter, Bachus made the remarks Nov. 4, at the local chamber's monthly luncheon meeting. But Bachus didn't stop with Palin, he also weighed in on Democrats continued accountability when it came to the power balance in Washington. "If you think Republicans are not in charge in Washington...," Bachus said. "Democrats are in control of the presidency and the Senate. It would take 67 votes to override any veto."

Yeah...And I'm sure that Partymanhack Junky is all broken up about republicans not being in control of the Senate.

When ole Spencer starts carping about career squishy sellouts like Snowe, Collins, Graham and McQuisling, then his babblings might become relevant.

:cuckoo:

Bachus is a dork. And, more to the point, he's wrong.

But for the TEA PARTY movement, it is clear that the GOP would not have had as much success in the midterms as they had. They likely would not have taken all the Senate seats they did take. If there was a trade-off -- in running candidates like Angle and O'Donnell -- that's fine by me.

But on balance, it is evident to most thinking people that there was a net GAIN in the Senate for the GOP precisely because the Tea Party movement fostered the ramping-up of a very justifiably disgruntled electorate.

ah yes, you're down to quoting rep. senators...:clap2::lol:

That would be true if the Democrats had only kept 51 seats. It is nevertheless completely unquestionable that she cost the Republicans the Delaware and Nevada senate seats, which would have been landslide carnages if Mike Castle and Sue Lowden had been the nominees.

As for the Tea Party in general, you could probably make the case for; a more mainstream Republican would've probably massacred Micheal Bennett in Colorado. The senate would be 50/50 if all three races had gone Republican.

What I'm not sure is whether Rease in WV and Dino Rossi in WS were Tea party candidates. Were they?

well, no question that if she hadn't back nutters in delaware, nevada and alaska, the repubs would have gotten the senate.

but it's not just sawwah's fault... the loons follow her. and, frankly, the normal repubs need to get out and vote during primaries so they don't have insane people representing them.

This reminds me of Christians who give the devil all the credit when things go wrong...

Who the fuck is Spenser Bachus?

Was he the voice of Mr Magoo?

Actually, there's a damn good "question" about how badly the GOP Senate candidates overall would have fared if it had not been for the actions of the Tea Party movement and folks like Sarah Palin.

While I don't doubt that Delaware might have been won with a stronger Tea Party candidate (and ditto Nevada), the fact is, O'Donnell knocked off the perfidious Castle. Good enough. And Angle gave Reid a real run for Soros' money!

The point is, the turn around in the Senate may have fallen short of being complete, but the GOP gains in the Senate were significant all the same -- especially considering that only slightly more than 1/3 of the fucking place was up for grabs. And the large strides taken by the GOP are properly credited TO the Tea Party movement. If it hadn't been for the Tea Party movement, the GOP strides in the Senate would likely have been much smaller or even non-existent.

I think you are completely misreading the election. The faltering economy secured the 08 election for Obama and the faltering economy secured the GOP an upset victory in the midterm. The tea party really had very little to do with it.
