1. I’ve never been a fan of placing a modifier in front of the term ‘justice,’ y’know, as in “social justice,” or “racial justice,”….but if the Left insists on different sorts of justice for different folks/groups…..let’s call it “special justice.”

2. Somehow, with the central requirement being that anyone but a Liberal/Progressive/Democrat is mean, nasty, hateful, there has been taught by the media and government schools that most Americans, especially white ones, are to be described that way, and only big totalitarian government is pure and just, and must be in place always.

“No justice, no peace” and all that.

3. The more intelligent are able to see through the miasma, and ‘cling to our traditions and religion’….

Justice means choice. The choice must be by recourse and devotion to laws made impartially, without respect to individuals, and applied impartially.

Should we extend our discussion to Justice….with mitigating factors of one’s childhood, race, or environment?
What weight to extenuation…his supposed goodness to animals or to his mother...? Where is consideration for the needs of the citizenry for protection?

No where: if a jury is influenced by emotion, dramatics, flattery, ‘compassion,’ then laws, which have been decided based on behaviors and not individuals are cast aside by reference to merit, or fairness, or compassion….all of which are inchoate, subjective and nonquantifiable.

a. It is not the government’s job to determine merit, rather to provide a set of laws that one may expect to be applied without intervention. Laws, under our Constitution, apply not to classes of people, but to classes of actions.

If “fairness” is associated with group-identity, with all of the associated accommodations, law will be reduced to constant petition of government for special and specific exemptions from justice. Law, to be just, but be written and carried out in ignorance of the identity of its claimants.

Which brings us to the case of Cyntoia Brown…..victim? or killer?

Was Cyntoia Brown sentenced to life in prison for self-defense? Nope.

Well….let’s see how it is reported:

“Cyntoia Brown, Sentenced at 16, Must Serve 51 Years Before She Is Eligible for Release
Brown, a victim of sex trafficking, claims she acted in self-defense when she killed a man who had solicited her for sex

Cyntoia Brown was only 16 when she was sentenced to life in prison, and the Tennessee Supreme Court ruled this past week that she will have to serve 51 years before she could be eligible for release.

Brown was convicted of murder and robbery for killing 43-year-old Johnny Mitchell Allen in 2004 after he solicited her for sex and brought her to his home. Brown claimed her actions were in self-defense because she was afraid Allen was going to kill her.

Tennessee law has since changed—prompted by Brown’s case—and minors can no longer be sentenced to life in prison, but that law, sadly, does not apply to Brown herself. She will have to wait until she is 67 before she can go before a parole board,…” Cyntoia Brown Must Serve 51 Years Before She Is Eligible for Release – Rolling Stone

Don’t ya’ wanna’ rush out and start a ‘GoFundMe’ page for this poor mistreated teen??????

Better wait for the rest of the thread before you contribute…..

We all know we have a two-tiered legal system in this country.

Liberal's are claiming we finally have a criminal in the OVAL Office, totally forgetting that Bill Clinton plead guilty to Obstruction and perjury, and Hillary was caught red handed obstructing justice and committed political espionage, but nobody wanted to prosecute her.

So justice with respect to Democrats is 'JUST US' .

Special Justice for those authorized by the Left.

5… what the mainstream media says about the Cyntoia Brown case

"Recent news coverage includes this very sympathetic piece from CNN and another from NPR, as well as a deluge of similarly sympathetic coverage from a variety of other sources.

Brown unsuccessfully argued self-defense at her trail. The court sentenced her to life in prison. She will first be eligible for parole after serving 51 years of her sentence.

It seems Ms. Brown has been getting a great deal of attention in recent years, arguing that she deserves clemency because of her status as a victim of sex trafficking. This attention includes a full-blown documentary, a social media campaign (#FreeCyntoiaBrown), and support from such people I guess I’m supposed to know as Rihanna, Snoop Dogg, and Kim Kardashian:

Was Cyntoia Brown sentenced to life in prison for self-defense? Nope.

"...the courage to fight back....."????????????????

Heart breaking?

Next, the particular variety of 'fighting back' in which she engaged.

“It’s heart breaking to see a young girl sex trafficked then when she has the courage to fight back is jailed for life.”

That’s the Liberal/Leftist’s description of what happened.

Basically, an example of Rule #1:
Every argument from Democrats and Liberals is a misrepresentation, a fabrication, or a bald-faced lie.

6. “This is a case in which “social hysteria nonsense (victims of sex trafficking, which I guess means prostitutes) should be immunized not just against minor offenses such as truancy and underage drinking, but also murder.

This case is not a self-defense case. …following truth not being reported at all by the mainstream media coverage of Ms. Brown’s travails.

How do we know this isn’t a self-defense case? Because even Ms. Brown is not appealing on the basis of self-defense. Her only basis for appeal, both at the state level and the Federal level, is essentially that her sentence constitutes cruel and unusual punishment. Period.”
Was Cyntoia Brown sentenced to life in prison for self-defense? Nope.

Guess why she lost.

This poor, poor waif......
"It’s heart breaking to see a young girl sex trafficked then when she has the courage to fight back is jailed for life.”

7.”There’s a reason she’s not appealing on the basis of self-defense: her claim of self-defense sucks based on the uncontested facts in this case. To quote from the 2014 decision of the Tennessee Court of Criminal Appeals (the state’s mid-level appellate court for criminal matters, and the decision of which is also embedded below):

The nude victim was lying face-down on the bed in a large pool of blood, and his “hands were beneath his face, his fingers ‘kind of partially interlocked,'” as if he had been sleeping. An autopsy revealed that he had been shot in the back of the head and that he did not have any defensive wounds. In the early morning hours of August 8, 2004, officers found the victim’s white pickup truck in a Walmart parking lot and arrested the Petitioner at a nearby hotel.

8.How about Ms. Brown’s own narrative of “self-defense,” quoting from the same decision?

The Petitioner waived her Miranda rights and gave a statement to police in which she said that on the night of August 6, 2004, she was walking near a Sonic Drive-In when the victim, whom she did not know, picked her up in his truck. He drove her to the Sonic, they ordered food, and the victim offered to let her spend the night at his home. The Petitioner accepted the victim’s offer, and they went to his house. There, the victim showed the Petitioner some guns, and they got into bed together. The victim whispered to and touched the Petitioner and reached underneath the bed. The Petitioner thought the victim was reaching for a gun, so she pulled a .40 caliber handgun out of her purse and shot him. She took money out of the victim’s wallet and two of his guns, drove his truck to the Walmart parking lot, and had someone drive her to the hotel where she was later arrested. The Petitioner denied that she was a prostitute or that she had sex with the victim.”
Was Cyntoia Brown sentenced to life in prison for self-defense? Nope.

9. This, and so very many other, instances, mark the intersection of soft-hearted, and soft-headed.

In other words, Liberalism.

Should we extend our discussion to ‘Special’ Justice….with mitigating factors of one’s childhood, race, or environment….poor choices?
What weight to extenuation…his supposed goodness to animals or to his mother...? Where is consideration for the needs of the citizenry for protection?

10. Kind of reminds me of the classic (Liberal?) film "Knock on Any Door."

“Though Humphrey Bogart is the official star of Knock on Any Door, the film is essentially a showcase for Columbia's newest young male discovery John Derek

A product of the slums, Morton is persuaded to take the case of underprivileged teenager Nick Romano (Derek), who has been arrested on a murder charge. Through flashbacks, Morton demonstrates that Romano is more a victim of society than a natural-born killer.

Though this defense strategy does not have the desired result on the jury thanks to the badgering of DA Kernan (George Macready), Morton does manage to arouse sympathy for the plight of those trapped by birth and circumstance in a dead-end existence. Knock on Any Door - Rotten Tomatoes

There is an illusion that is the basis of progressive philosophy, that with the right government, men will be persuaded to behave as angels. For conservatives, though, men will always behave as they do, with envy, greed and covetousness. The best we can do is create government with requisite checks and balances that assumes the imperfect nature of man, a human nature that is not perfectible.

The purpose of religion and morality is to limit the corrosive influences of human nature. The purpose of law is to control the destructive actions which spring from said nature.

It is the antithesis of Liberalism.

Cyntoia Brown should wait her 51 years….or, at least until her victim walks the earth again.

10. Here, PBS, drumming up sympathy for this killer.
