Politicians love to throw in a little Spanish here and there when speaking before certain groups of constituents. They seem to think it's 'cool' and makes them look like they are down with the peeps. But is it really a good idea? It seems to me that it never comes across quite the way they were hoping. How many times have we seen politicians looking very impressed with themselves offering cringe-worthy chunks of Spanish in campaign speeches? Can any American politician, no matter his fluency, speak French in public and come across well to the American public? Remember Huntsman throwing in some Mandarin in his statements in the primary? Would you advise a politician (if you were their advisor) to avoid trying?
