Nancy Pelosi makes me cringe.

Is something wrong with her, or me?

Pelosi, our first female speaker of the House, grandmother, mother of five (four in five years), has been all over TV this weekend with that wide-eyed, runaway bride thing going. She’s wearing her bright red pantsuit (an Armani, you think?).

She’s smiling too wide, ear to ear, like it was just fantastic to get her head handed to her in her very first act as a supposed bipartisan, squeaky clean speaker: trying to settle an old vendetta by foisting on America as majority leader John Murtha - the divisive, unclean, aged and jowled end-the-war crusader.

“Maybe there’s a sexual relationship there?” deadpanned talk radio’s Don Imus, trying to explain it all.

“Is this embarrassing for her?” Fox News’ Bill O‘Reilly asked anaylst Dick “The Toe” Morris.

“Very embarrassing,” said Morris, seemingly delighted. “She was very stupid for getting involved.”

Web pundits were equally gleeful, making nasty Bela Pelosi jokes (playing off Bela Lugosi, the Hungarian actor who immortalized Dracula).New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd went so far as to quote ex-Solicitor General Ted Olson on Pelosi: “The new Congress could amuse itself by searching for any sign of movement in Speaker Pelosi’s forehead.”

The Senate, he added, according to Dowd, “would be entertained by the expressionless, Pelosi-like forehead of Senator Clinton.”

Ouch! What low blows!

I should have felt awful. I did not feel nearly awful enough.

“Oh my God, I didn’t either. And I feel so guilty. She’s a woman,” said Mary Marino of Andover, a lifelong Democrat, at least until 9/11. “I guess I feel like our country is so polarized and she’s such a polarizing person.” And stuck in ideas from 35 years ago.

Martha Shreve of Salem cut to the quick. It’s Hillary all over again, she said. “I think about Nancy and I think it’s like with Hillary, a visceral reaction. I just don’t like her. There’s something very disingenuous about her.”

Both these women, however, like and respect Kerry Healey, who just lost the governor’s race in large part because she didn’t attract enough independent women voters. Both admire Condoleezza Rice as well, though some would say she’s lied nonstop since we invaded Iraq.

So is this just another example of us catty women eating our own as soon as they rise to the top? Or is Nancy Pelosi just another in a long line of ambitious and obnoxious climbers who rise to the top of the national Democratic Party - like Hillary, John Kerry, Al Gore?

You know, the self-righteous, we-know-better-than-you-do type who’s going to tell you what your correct social values should be, like saving the public schools, even though their kids all went to private schools.

Plus, Pelosi’s worth $55 million.

“I’m not sure I see that self-righteousness in Nancy,” says one local Italian woman rooting for another. But she can see the potential, a certain lecture-waiting-to-happen quality.

I hope my neighbors don’t read this because Pelosi reminds me of some of them, too. One in particular: She has two huge Deval Patrick signs on her lawn, the same lawn routinely cut by Spanish-speaking gardners whom she recommended to me because, why else? They’re really, really cheap.

Pelosi is just the latest reason why women should not have been given the vote.

Give that a woman an inch and she thinks she's a ruler, eh?

Some people shouldn't go into bars, others should not go into voting booths. I don't mean that women shouldn't vote, I think they should. But ignorant people, now that's a horse of a different color!

Many people don't even know how our government works! They can't name their congressman or Senator. That is inexcusable.

I know that many people (both Republican and Democrat) who make their decision based on the last campaign commercial they just happened to see.

Nice to see they aren't wasting any time.

The hypocrisy is getting deep in here...

Don't get it do ya?

Repub's social values are those which held this country, and it's infancy as colonies, together for 400 years. Crank that back to Western Europe and your going on 2500 years. In other words, because I know it's hard for some libs to follow history, Western philosophy and morality at it's core.

Dem values, on the other hand, are the creation of Marxist/Socialism. Lessee now Marx wrote the commie manifesto (I'm sure you have it memorized) when? 1848? And the first commie movement occured quickly thereafter. However the commie/socialist corruption of our society stems from the New Deal at its' inception in 1933. But really for the most part Americans weren't about to buy marxist/socialism as something some could take to heart until the little darlings, a/k/a as the boomers, went to college in the 60's. There they smoked dope, dropped acid, screwed nice willing foolish girls, learned to hate their country, and gave us "enlightenment".. Since then we've had to deal with the bullshit that is left wing "social values". Which are in reality revamped marxist-leninism. If they, and you as a part of them, have their way our culture will be destroyed, our country devastated, and you and yours will soon be kneeling to Mecca five times daily. So hey your "social values" are on par with historic Western values if you seek self annihilation. Oh how I loathe the left.....
