Sowell: Obama Win Would Be Historic Tragedy

Maybe so but the Gipper left such a impression of hope for me in a dark time in my life and i just dont feel that with Obama sorry:(

Hey no skin off my back. I'm not trying to convert anyone just here for the sport of debate. My problem is with the direction the GOP has taken since Reagan left office. The corporatist agenda is more than I can stomach and if I had any impression at all that Obama is the "socialist" he's been made out to be, I wouldn't consider voting for him under any circumstances. I just really think he'll be so much more of a capitalist market guy than MOST follks think. In fact so much so that that's the thing that scares me most ironically. I just hope to see some balance. Big deal if you and I have conflicting opinions on certain issues. Props to you for having some conviction

Well appreciate you responding to my thread i envite all comments weather i agree or no, and i do see your point thanx again 9Vote...

Wrong! I did not vote for President Bush. I voted against him. I see the makings of a 2008 presidential disaster, in choosing Obama as our next President.

The reason why I did not vote for President Bush? I was able to recognize him as a poor presidential candidate during the 2004 elections. As I am now able to recognize Obama as a poor choice for President, in the 2008 elections.

Barack Obama is a fundamentally poor presidential candidate. Have you even bothered to look at his voting record? The number of times that he has voted present? He took NO stance on the issues. He is not even interested in them. He has only been interested in one thing. One thing alone and that is to become President.

And people such as you were not gifted with the ability to look further beyond the surface. You just cannot see this. I guess I cannot blame you. It is a flaw in your make-up.

Thankfully, people who were awarded with that special gift, are able to keep the Obamas of the world, out of the oval office.

That's really interesting.

First, I don't support Obama .. guess I have the gift.

Secondly, I didn't support Bush either .. more gift?

Third, I also have the gift of knowing that having the "gift" does not mean you have the power to keep Obama out of office no more than having it gave you the power to keep Bush out of office.

My point to you was that intelligence is a qualification for president you failed to mention. People are impressed by his intelligence. I don't support him but I'm impressed by his intelligence .. which has allowed him to fulfill what is perhaps the most calculated life in human history. Four years ago he was in the Illinois State Senate .. won the US Senate seat with the largest margin in Illionois stae history .. didn't finish one term in the Senate .. ran for president .. beat the most powerful political family in America in the last 40 years .. raised the most money in American election history .. led the Democratic Party to complete control of government .. and will most likely be the next president of the United States .. and did it all while DWB (Driving While Black)

How can one NOT be impressed by his intelligence? .. particulary after 8 years of a president who spoke english like a second language

My comments to you is that your confusion to why people buy into his message should not be that difficult to figure out.

From my perspective, people are listening to the music, not paying much attention to the words

I apologize for acussing you of supporting Bush .. but you sure sounded like you did.

Well said but I think his ability to organize support was borrowed from some less than savory influencers. Sure--it still counts. People don't want to know something that might wreck the "music".

What a silly man this Thomas Sowell is, the article makes little sense and assumes a knowledge no one has. Speculative negativity is a ugly trait.

Actually to the contrary, I think a lot of people are going to be surprised that he is more of a capitalist that previously thought. I think he will escalate the war in Afghanistan and start military operations in Pakistan. I think most people will be surprised at what he will do. I think people have a very misguided idea of what he is up to.:eusa_whistle:

There, plus his connections to Wall Street, is where the criticisms of Obama should have went .. not ACORN, Ayers, Wright, "Hussein", birth certificates, inexperience, patriotism, flag pins, Rezco, socialism, Michelle Obama, elitist, "bitter", and none of all the other braindead knuckleheaded ideas the right has come up with. They treated the entire American voting public as if they all were just as dumb as their base.

Exactly true brother. It doesn't matter whether you're a democrat or a republican, they both listen to the music and ignore the words. Republicans did that, and now they'll pay the price. I don't believe democrats are any better at complete control of the government than republicans were.. and the words of Obama's song are troubling.

It's politics meets rap music.

The beat is bumpin' .. but what the fuck did he just say ..

Groove on America wit yo' bad self :eusa_angel:

Millions upon millions of people listen to Sowell, who in hell listens to YOU???and your ranting belligerant BS...

Millions upon millions of rightwing nutjobs and their well trained Uncle Tom Negroes do. Clarence Thomas cites Thomas Sowell as some kind of "good authority" as does Ward Connerly, thats enough to tell Mr Bass exactly what Sowell represents.

Hey, that's inside stuff .. won't be understood in the main.

But I do understand the anology. :eusa_angel:

I'm glad somebody does understand, because it really frustrates me when some whites, whether intentionally and or naively, support these Uncle Thomases and uphold them as good and fair people without really knowing nor understanding the true motivation behind the actions of these House Negroes.

It's all about perspective brother. People cannot operate from what they cannot see or know .. that includes black people. The good news is that ALL white people do not support Thomas, Sowell, or any of the castrated few .. and few they are indeed. We cannot condemn all whites for the sins of a few.

That which threatens the future of our children is not white people or any variation of pigmentation. That which threatens us all is a capitalistic system run amok .. the plutocracy that feeds off us all.

I totally agree with you 100%, not all whites support Sowell, which is true and ultra-capitalism leads to all kinds of ills. I frequently listen to and read quotes from Fred Hampton and one thing he said that racism and sexism are the byproducts of capitalism, they smokescreen tactics used to keep the rich people rich and to blind the poor and oppressed to the true state of their condition. Ultra-capitalism[ie, system of greed] breeds oppression and disunity.

Uncle Thomases like Sowell are confounded by people like Obama. On the one hand, they like to use Obama as proof that racism no longer exists and or that blacks can no longer say that race matters, yet at the same the time they want to carry out the traditional duties of Tomism by attacking him like they do all blacks who don't follow their Uncle Tomism. These Negroes are somewhere between the plantation and the free North, but obviously closer to the plantation.

Absolutely the point my brother .. thus, in our knowing, we cannot fall victim to the same divisive tactics. It is more important that white people talk to other white people about racism than it is if you or I did it.

But at the same time we have to ask, beyond the symbolism, what exactly is Obama going to do for the black community. From my perspective, don't expect much.

What will he do about the injustice of the war on black people, otherwise called the "war on drugs" .. don't expect much, if anything at all.

What will the black community get for being the democrats most loyal constituency and ushering democrats into complete control of government .. a Marshall Plan for the inner cities, perhaps? .. don't expect much because we no longer make demands of the Democratic Party. We been misdirected to only see the ugly in republicans we haven't noticed the democrats merely take the black vote for granted.

Symbolism is about all African-Americans are going to get for their massive energy.

No shortage of field hand Whites out here who recognize the same propensity in members of our own race, either, Bass.

This board is loaded with happy Whites who are happy house boys.
