Indeed, 11 of the 14 (79%) of the states receiving the least federal spending per dollar of federal taxes paid are Blue States. As recently as last month, no city in California had opted for bankruptcy since 2008, and no U.S. city of more than 200,000 people had ever chosen bankruptcy.

The past two weeks have changed all that, in a big way, as the fiscal struggles faced by so many American cities became too much for some to bear.

San Bernardino became the third California city in that small span to choose Chapter 9 bankruptcy protection with a City Council vote on Tuesday night.

they should just do the whole state and get it over with.

San Bernadino County has an unemployment rate of about 12.7% (not seasonally adjusted) and was crushed during the bursting of the housing bubble. Under those conditions, any city run by any party would be faced with this decision. The fact that this is happening in California means nothing, as the article clearly states that on average, 8 government entities have declared bankruptcy per year since 1937.

Except that this is the 3rd city in as many weeks.

Clearly this city missed the fact that California will soon overcome its financial woes as Brown's boondoggle bullet train creates prosperity, sunshine and rainbows...cuz when you're broke in horrible debt, the best thing to do is borrow and spend more. :eusa_eh:

I read this morning where 20% of the cities in California are in what could be termed as SERIOUS financial trouble. And by serious, they meant that they were within a hair of having to declare bankruptcy.

Any way you slice this, it's bad... very bad. But let me very, very clear on this. California has for the last 20 years had this "We don't care, we do what we want" attitude. They've shown it on voting for amnesty cities (they're now going to vote on having an amnesty state); having different blends in gasoline and penalizing environmental laws; by providing unbelievable benefits for illegal aliens and others; and by generally giving away money in entitlement programs.

If California cities go bankrupt, then it is up to CALIFORNIA to fix it. I have NO SYMPATHY for California, just like I haven't had any sympathy for DETROIT or any other place that refuses to adhere to some basic economic soundness. You want to keep giving stuff away to illegal aliens but are running out of money? Then you raise CALIFORNIA taxes to pay for it.

Here in Oklahoma we are preparing to do away with the state income tax. We can do this because companies that used to be in California are coming here...

Thanks!

All very reasonable and I absolutely agree but no matter how logical your words, you will still pay for Brown's boondoggle bullet train. So will the taxpayers in every other state. You have no choice in the matter.
