St. Louis, Missouri (KMOV.com) -- News 4 is learning from sources that the gunman in Thursday morning's shooting spree at a north St. Louis factory is dead. News 4's Laurie Waters reports that her sources are telling her that the gunman shot himself to death. St. Louis police now say that the total number of dead is three, however they are not releasing whether the gunman is among the dead.

St. Louis fire officials have told News 4 a total of eight people were shot. Three are dead, three are in critical condition, one is in serious condition and another suffered only minor injuries.

SkyZoom 4 was over the scene as a victim was removed from the scene and taken to an ambulance just before 11 a.m. The police presence around the paramedics was much less than it had been earlier in the morning.

Police say shots rang out at the APP Power facility in north St. Louis around 6:30 a.m. An army of officers raced to the scene, sealing off the plant where electrical transformers are made. Nearby businesses were placed on lock down, Interstate 70 was closed in both directions and streets in the area were blocked while police SWAT teams and armored vehicles moved in and around the building.

There were numerous reports of calls and text messages coming from workers inside the sprawling factory. Some spoke of hearing shots, seeing the injured. Others indicated that, in the early going, they were unaware of the shooting until they were called by family members.

Sources tell News 4 that the gunman was Timothy Hendron, a man in his 50s, from Webster Groves. Police are not confirming that information, and they will not comment on his status.

A man identified as wanted by police for Thursday's workplace shooting at ABB, Inc. in St. Louis City is also part of a lawsuit seeking to recover alleged financial losses and damages from the ABB pension plan. The civil trial began Tuesday in federal court in Kansas City. The suit alleges that the firm's pension plan offered employees improper and "imprudent" investment options and charged excessive fees thereby damaging the plan.

Hendron is believed to be a 23-year employee of the plant.
