You know, to believe in a cause strongly enough to put a bomb in your undies and blow off some really important body parts - let along kill some innocent people, calls for a deep belief in a cause or just simple stupidity. Do any of you board members feel that strongly about anything? If so, let's talk about it.

I wish I could find the site again, but the Al Aqsa Martyrs brigade had a web site in english where they gave biographies of folks who had done this.

Mostly what I saw was desperation and despair, not conviction. One woman went this way because her family was trying to marry her off to a guy 40 years older.

I think the description of the typical suicide bomber was from Conrad's novel "The Secret Agent." Mentally defective, easily led, a burden to those around them who found this a method to redeem their deficiencies.

If i ever find the link again, I will post it here. It is heartbreaking.
