I hope she is happy with her life....So does Cher

Her choice... whether I find it silly or repugnant or not... hope he/she/it is happy

gender dysphoria isn't a choice:

Gender dysphoria is a medical condition characterized by a disconnection between someone's assigned and perceived genders. Individuals with gender dysphoria usually identify themselves as transgendered or transsexual, depending on their ideological feelings about sex and gender. Some transgendered individuals also disagree with the categorization of gender dysphoria as a medical condition, as part of a larger exploration of gender identity and what “normal” gender is. It is also important to differentiate a transvestite from someone with gender dysphoria; medically, a transvestite is someone who wears clothing belonging to the opposite gendergendergender, but is both happy and secure with his or her gender identity.

What is Gender Dysphoria?

What is Gender Dysphoria?

Lest we forget that many consider it a mental illness... or in the same groupings with psychological problems including fetishism, pedophilia, transvestism, etc

Much like the claim of a 'gay gene'.... nothing has shown this to be medical or genetic rather than choice or pathology.. and if actually a pathology, just as with the pathology of Apotemnophilia, doctors don't succumb to the 'feeling' and simply change/remove the limb on whim for that pathology, maybe sex changes resulting from that diagnosis should be scrutinized too

Whatever...

She was a girl, now physically looking like a guy because of surgery... he/she/it is supposedly happy... on to real news

Have they found that "left handed" gene yet? Or does it not exist?

Apparently, by simply asking this question I was neg-repped by Diamond Dave. Since when does asking a simple question earn neg-reps? Oops! That's another question, isn't it? I'm sooooo sorry!

different... but it's pretty clear in every instance that homosexuality is not choice. it may be a combination of genetic predisposition and environment but it isn't choice. certain people like pretending it's choice so they can justify discrimination.

nor is gender dysphoria a 'choice'.

and people are not 'it'.

nice.

as for the DSM IV definition:

This cross-gender identification must not merely be a desire for any perceived cultural advantages of being the other sex. there must also be evidence of persistent discomfort about one’s assigned sex or a sense of inappropriateness in the gender role of that sex (Criteria B). The diagnosis is not made if the individual has a concurrent physical intersex condition (e.g., androgen insensitivity syndrome or congenital adrenal hyperplasia) (Criteria C). To make the diagnosis, there must be evidence of clinically significant distress or impairment in social, occupational, or other important areas of functioning (Criteria D).

Gender Identity Disorder DSM IV Criteria

1) Show this genetic link or predisposition
2) As stated.. if not a choice it is a pathology and this DSM is listed as a mental illness in many places
3) There are only 2 sexes... male (he), and female (she).... anything else is generally referred to as an it... since this one is a female and has altered appearance to look like a male... who knows really how to refer in terms of gender??
4) It is not clear that 'homosexuality is not a choice'... what isn't genetic is either pathological or choice... so I guess you are in the pathology camp?

Whatever... she's exercised her freedom to gain a tallywhacker.... whatever floats her/his/whatevers boat
