Alright, I don't know how's it for the rest of you. However, almost every distinguishable part of my life - especially major events, shocks, happy moments, etc. - I can revisit by listening to certain songs.

For example: Placebo - Pure Morning

Memory: Smoking Parliaments with my precious friend A that let me stay in her tiny one-bedroom apartment for about 3 weeks after I broke up with my ex and moved away, I was 21, sleeping in the same bed with her in a one-bedroom apartment in downtown ATL, borrowing her clothes, photo-shoots for her school projects, MJQ. The overwhelming feeling that comes back with the song: freedom. (Love to listen to it while driving ... brings it all back and feels amazing)

Such songs as Pure Morning have the ability to literally take me back to a certain time in my past. The list goes, of course, on.

Do you have any such songs and what parts of life - memorable events - do you connect with them?

My long-time crush gave me a tape (yes, cassette tape) of this song for my birthday. And then he moved away. The next time I saw him was at least 10 years later and he was married. :(

The memory: John Denver got me through the late 60s-early 70s. While my elder siblings were getting on drugs, and my poor younger brother was wiped out mentally by our parents split, his music gave me a place to go. This song in particular came later, it's nothing really, but it was an affirmation.

The Music is you.

if I hear this song I think of pep cons in high school, we used to go ape shit when they started playing this.

I guess I grew up in a different time, the war was really starting to escalate, and Civil Rights were still being fought for.

HA! Richard Marx!

pure 80s.

Yes, but at the time it was the most perfect, meaningful song in the world.

i was in jr high at the time and not quite as deep into music as I eventually stepped. I hate to say it but I used to listen to a pop radio station, Q106.5, where a lot of Marx was played. And, just to show you that I'm not trying to be a bastard:

My first real gf was from what i'd call "the good kids" group of my friends. Watching movies and playing board games instead of partying and all that. We hooked up during the summer that this band hit. I felt my first taste of love and this was in the soundtrack rotation. As most young loves do, ours didn't last nearly as long as promised on feathery pillow.. for the next decade, like a pavlovian dog, Hootie and the blowfish music from Cracked Rear View could bring me to tears. true story.

One of my best friends' dad passed away about 10 years ago. Our families grew up together, so she is much like a sister to me. They played this song at his memorial and it always brings him and his family to mind. It also makes me think of what my family/loved ones mean to me. :)

My parents were very religious and very strict. Which, among other things, meant no rock music. Devil's tool and all, you know.

Anyway, my best friend (Diana at the time, now Dyana) had a BonJovi album that she brought over and we listened to in the deepest, darkest of night. This song makes me remember when getting caught with rock music was the worst thing I could think of. And a good friend to listen with.
