Okay so lately, there is this ad for a site called "Cougarlife.com" on the top of our board. Seriously? They really think they're going to find a bunch of verile, young hunks like me on this board???
Or gorgeously altered rich women who can afford young hunks? WTF???

I mean look, the Ron Paul ad I get.
Newsmax? Sure! I go to all their polls just to vote the opposite of what they think (Love their questions e.g. "Do you think Obama has ever done anything wrong at all, and is therefore unfit to be president?" I answered No.)
An ad to get your useless degree in Military History so you can claim authority during argument with the other old farts in your bocci ball league? Yeah okay, you'll find students for that here.
An ad to import a mail order bride from a poverty state? Yup. Lots of old farts will convince themselves that some little brunette wants nothing more than to watch them chat on the internet in their tighty whiteys all day.

But rich beautiful women and hot young guys???? Here??? I'm shocked! I'm insulted! I'm more than just a piece of meat you know! I have a mind and substance and, and .... someone hand me a tissue.

I just noticed cugarlife in the upper right hand corner. They can't be checking my cookies or they would be advertising X-lax. A little over a year ago I was permanently banned from the History Channel political forum. I had been posting for a couple of years without any problem until the HC decided to reorganize and hire "moderators" to monitor the forum. I immediately got on the wrong side of a particular moderator and got suspended a couple of times for a couple of days. There was no appeal. The last warning was for "bickering". Bickering? That's what it is all about. About a week before Christmas 2010 I got a notice that I was permanently banned. I was irate and angry. I got hold of the chief moderator's E mail address and didn't let up. Finally I E-mailed my Congressman. About six months later I got an E'mail from the History Channel that my case had been reviewed and that the entire forum would be shut down. Too bad they hired the stupid moderators and too bad the forum was shut down.

At the top of the page is an ad for George Washington University. I don't know if the 'spy stuff' identifies me as an intellectual who would appreciate a college ad or an ignoramus who really REALLY needs more educationl. Okay...okay...no comment on that necessary.

At the bottom is a Ron Paul campaign ad, somebody I have never started a thread on, don't post in many threads in which he is the topic, and have never supported.

But it has been worse. Much, much worse.

I really don't mind the ads though. I rarely even notice them unless somebody points them out or I just happen to be poking around the edges of the page. I figure the advertising helps offset at least some of the cost of administrating a board like USMB and as it doesn't bother me, I would like for the advertisers to keep advertising for that reason. I don't want USMB to go away as I don't want to have to find another message board home that I probably wouldn't like as well.

Ghostery actually works better for blocking tracking. I stopped using TACO when Abine bought them and added trackers and adware in order to push their privacy suite. I understand they removed them, but it left a bad taste in my mouth.
