Something amazing to me

That may be the dumbest thing I've ever heard and I'm a teacher so that says alot.

We need Abortion because condoms/pills aren't %100? Wow, thats why

Not because of rape, unwanted 13 years old pregnancies, or molestation by their family members? No, its because birth control doesn't work! Well, I'm 30, have had my share of experiences, and yet I've never had a child or gotten anyone pregnant, amazing! I must be very lucky

You are a teacher and believe contraception to be 100% foolproof ??
What in the hell do you teach, basket weaving ?

What percentage of conservatives do you think you are talking about rightwingers. I know plenty who don't fit your abstinance mold.

I belong to a party that almost universally believes in comprehensive sex ed, stem cell research, and laughs at the thought of creationism being taught as a science.

You belong to a party who's conservative wing largely believes or defends creationism and abstinence only sex ed.

Don't blame me, if you're embarrassed by large swaths of the conservative wing of your party.

And what percentage of contreception fails? That aside, her mother believes in abstinence only. If she can't even convince her 17 year-old daughter to stop bonking, what right does she have to preach to the rest of the country?

There is the HEART of this argument. People who strive for a harder goal are castigated when they fail. They KNOW they won't succeed all the time.

Now here is a real easy one to predict--teens will have sex. You know why--cause if they don't have sex NO ONE WILL EVER FIND OUT.

If you wanna live with the thinking that people are incapable of self -discipline so strongly that you won't even recommend the BEST way not to get pregnant go for it. Get out that sex ed method that you think is best for everyone and teach it in schools. The FIRST TIME a girl gets pregnant anyway we will agree that YOUR method is a failure too !

Because most parents want sex ed taught. Human sexuality is an educational topic same as biology, physiology, and chemistry.

Besides, the states I lived in, sex ed was optional. No one forces a kid to take it, and parents can keep their kid out of sex ed classes.

Well when all of the parents can get together and agree how to "properly" teach it, fine. In the mean time--I won't teach your kid abstinence if you don't teach my kid how to give a blow job ! deal ?

You went to public school, didn't you?

"the rightwingers really do call anyone who disagrees with them "socialist"......"

and the leftwingers really do call people "facist", if you like to call people an "ist" of any kind, chances are pretty good you'll get some kind of an "ist" back, but it's a lot easier than actually researching boring issues, and a lot more entertaining that debating the minutiae of tax policy

So now you don't want to teach biology in school because it's socialist?

Another ignorant post by you, tell me the last time an amoeba has anything to do with sex ed....damn your ignorant...

Wrong--demanding that Sex Education be taught using the same set of morals for everyone is socialist. Ok maybe Marxist.

my Lord this thread is full of idiots on BOTH sides!

Schools should offer HEALTH education. They should include a section on sexual responsibility, which SHOULD include NOT having sex as the first and most responsible choice until they reach an age when they are old enough to take full responsibility for their actions, both physically and emotionally.

Kids today treat sex way too casually and I think it's because they see it all the time in society and yet they have parents who ignore the reality that these kids need guidance that is based not only on morals but reality.

I have a 13 (almost 14) year old daughter. I have talked openly and honestly with her about sex since she was 11 years old and began asking questions. I told her that sex is a BIG deal and shouldn't be taken for granted and that she should wait until she is at least 18 or out of High school. I explained that sex complicates relationships and once you do it you can't take it back and return to the way it was before.

I also explained that boys will attempt to pressure her into sex but it is her responsibility to herself to say no until she is emotionally ready.

In the alternative, I explained the IF she's going to have sex she should always protect herself and if a boy won't wear a condom she should know that he doesn't care about her or her safety.

I have friends who have daughters' the same age and they've never once even approached the subject of sex with their girls. My daughters friends come to her to ask questions because they know I talk to her. That is sad because discussing sex, in an open and honest manner, is a great opportunity to bond with your child. It builds trust if you allow them to ask you anything and you give them the truth, even if it's uncomfortable.

Do I think my daughter will wait til she's 18 or out of high school? probably not. But I also think I've given her all the knowledge and tools she needs to make an educated decision which protects her from more than just a baby.

BTW: I think bigdaddygtr was being sarcastic about birth control being 100%. at least I read it that way...

uh--- I think at least one "idiot" has suggested that parents are responsible to educate their own children the parents preferred manner of sexual behavior. I want to see the hands of the parents who want the school to do the teaching instead of them.

I don't want them teaching them instead but how about IN ADDITION TO?

face the reality that MANY parents are sorely lacking in the area of sexual education to their children. They are too embarassed to discuss it so they don't. They don't want to think about their "baby" having sex so they push it out of their minds and ignore it. THESE are the kids who need schools to offer them SOME form of sexual responsibility education, if not to prevent pregnancy, how about HIV/AIDS?!

How about we start certifying parents before they can have children...

The only problem with teaching sex education in schools, is this, how far do we go, who's standard is applied? I believe parents are responsible for sex education. If you aren't a responsible enough parent to discuss sex with your child, then you have no right to have children in the first place.
