Thought these were rather interesting for those of you who insist we have a crisis and simply must enact, single payer, government run health care.

There are actually two messages here. The 1st is very interesting, but the 2nd is absolutely astounding - and explains a lot.
A recent "Investor's Business Daily" article provided very interesting statistics from a survey by the United Nations International Health Organization.

Percentage of men and women who survived a cancer five years after diagnosis:

U.S. 65%

England 46%

Canada 42%
Percentage of patients diagnosed with diabetes who received treatment within six months:

U.S. 93%

England 15%

Canada 43%

Percentage of seniors needing hip replacement who received it within six months:

U.S. 90%

England 15%

Canada 43%

Percentage referred to a medical specialist who see one within one month:

U.S. 77%

England 40%

Canada 43%

Number of MRI scanners (a prime diagnostic tool) per million
people:

U.S. 71

England 14

Canada 18

Percentage of seniors (65+), with low income, who say they are in "excellent health":

U.S. 12%

England 2%

Canada 6%

And now for the last statistic:

National Health Insurance?

U.S. NO

England YES

Canada YES
Check this last set of statistics!!

The percentage of each past president's cabinet who had worked in the private business sector prior to their appointment to the cabinet. You know what the private business sector is: a real-life business, not a government job. Here are the percentages.

T. Roosevelt................... 38%

Taft................................... 40%

Wilson.............................. 52%

Harding........................... 49%

Coolidge......................... 48%

Hoover............................. 42%

F. Roosevelt................... 50%

Truman............................ 50%
Eisenhower.................... 57%

Kennedy......................... 30%

Johnson.......................... 47%

Nixon............................... 53%

Ford.................................. 42%

Carter............................... 32%

Reagan............................ 56%

GH Bush......................... 51%

Clinton............................. 39%

GW Bush......................... 55%

Obama..................... 8%

This helps to explain the incompetence of this administration:
only 8% of them have ever worked in private business!

That's right! Only eight percent---the least, by far, of the last 19 presidents! And these people are trying to tell our big corporations how to run their business?

How can the president of a major nation and society, the one with the most successful economic system in world history, stand and talk about business when he's never worked for one? Or about jobs when he has never really had one? And when it's the same for 92% of his senior staff and closest advisers? They've spent most of their time in academia, government and/or non-profit jobs or as "community organizers." They should have been in an employment line.

Fascinating. Thanks for sharing.

While I enjoy a good laugh, I have to say that statistics need to be taken in context.

It is hard, however, to ignore what has been posted here in terms of health care.

As for Obama's cabinet, I'd like to know who the eight percent are ? They must have been real losers in the private sector. I know Valerie Jarrett was a slumlord...but she does not count. She is not on his cabinet..she is under his desk.

Nice cherry picked stats.

Now post a cost comparison and rate cost increase comparison with 10 year cost projections.

Yeah, because it's not whether or not you're more likely to die in the UK and Canada. What's important is that it'll be cheaper to die there than to live here! :eusa_hand:

Frigging moron.

I don't deny that health care costs a lot here. But cost is the only factor of our health care system. You libs are so naive as to believe if you just make it cheap for everyone that it's going to fix things.

This is one of the biggest dividing factors between those who are labeled conservative, or liberal.
A friend recently told me-"All you liberals are alike. You think too much about others' feelings.
It isn't personal; it's business. Feelings are irrelevent in business." So I suppose if that's what
you're comfortable with....okay. And by quoting her, I am not suggesting that all conservatives
feel this way. This is just how it has been explained to me.

There are a few things the quotes from this article that bother me. Does the entire article answer these
questions?:

1) Percentage of men and women who survived a cancer five years after diagnosis:
US has the highest percentage of survival (per chart) Does it specify which types of cancer in the article?
Not all cancers have the same survival rate. Pancreatic cancer-very high mortality rate.
Prostate survival rates-much higher. In the allotted time frame, did Canada have more
patients with cancers with higher mortality rates?

2) Percentage of patients diagnosed with diabetes who received treatment within six months:
US-highest percentage again. Since everyone in both countries have healthcare, they're
all going to see a doctor for the three P's of diabetes (polyuria, polydipsia, polyphagia).
Of course it's going to be quicker in the US, because so many people are without insurance.
I would love to see a study of all the homeless and uninsured who have diabetes.
The results are probably staggering. And I realize that this was one of many
concerns that people had with a one-payer system (the wait times). So, if you're too
poor to seek care in this country or you're uninsured, you're shit out of luck? If you're okay
with that...then okay.

3)Percentage referred to a medical specialist who see one within one month-
US number one. Do we have more specialists than the other two countries?
Doesn't it depend on the specialty. OBGYN is a lengthy wait in this country
due to the massive amount these physicians have to pay for malpractice
insurance. So we don't have too many. We also have a shortage of
radiologists. But I think it comes down again to-who can afford it,
and who can't. We have more uninsured and fewer
who can afford...thus less wait time.

4) Number of MRI scanners (a prime diagnostic tool) per million
people:
No problem with this statement. And MRI's are an awesome tool.

5) Percentage of seniors (65+), with low income, who say they are in "excellent health":
Medicare? Fewer people are insured (adjusted for population) or able to pay for healthcare.
Less wait time.

If the US were to change to say "Medicare for all", people would flood doctor's offices. They would suddenly be able to
get an assessment to find out why they've had headaches every day for the last 2 years-
where before they sucked it up and took some ibuprofen, instead of finding out that
their blood pressure is 230/140. Or maybe get that mole checked that used to be brown, but now looks
like a crushed cranberry.

I understand the business side of it-the cost concerns. Do you really feel comfortable knowing
that people as we type right now, are walking around with diabetes-
with the feet rotting off due to neuropathy...which will ultimately
lead to a probable amputation?

Oh, and something else to think about...yes, physicians do get compensated more
in the US than many other countries, including UK. Do we have more physicians?

So I guess it depends on whether you're a moron liberal (feel bad for the less fortunate), or are heartless bastard conservative (more concerned about the costs and personal inconvenience). It's too bad that we can't come to an agreement on this.

And another thought. If the uninsured walk around for years with untreated hypertension, diabetes, heart disease, or whatever; they will eventually, probably, end up on gov't. insurance anyway. Because by the time they see a doctor, their kidneys are probably beginning to shut down (medicaid and dialysis $$$$$), an ejection fraction of 20% (cardiac surgery $$$$$$$$$$$ and medicaid).

Thought these were rather interesting for those of you who insist we have a crisis and simply must enact, single payer, government run health care.

They've spent most of their time in academia, government and/or non-profit jobs or as "community organizers." They should have been in an employment line.

The two sides already are half way there in agreement. Both sides I believe want the same thing. It's just that the idea on the table right now (Obamacare) is a liberal idea. And I'm sorry to say it but liberals are for whatever reason the most illogical problem solvers I have ever come across. Free market solutions do work in terms of lowering costs, but because their inherent anti-capitilistic nature they insist we can't do that and people will get victimized if we do. No, no what we have to do because health care premiums keep going up and are getting to expensive is make insurance companies cover even more stuff and make everyone buy it.

I think you also have a misconception of the 'business side of things'. The left likes to say that capitilism and business is all about profits. That's true but it's only half the story. HOW do private businesses generate profits? The simplest, truest answer to that is they do what their customers want. That's how successfull businesses are run long term. That's why all the things that liberals claim businesses do, like price gouge, cut corners, or generally just screw people, makes no sense. It isn't in the financial interest of a business to do things like that. The problem now is hospital and physician business doesn't have to respond to the customer because that isn't where their money is coming from.

:dunno:

How about a link to these statistics?

Oh wait, you don't have one. You copied and pasted this out of a chain email.

Guess what. Just because it's on the Internet, doesn't make it true.

Since the liberals vaunted WHO report actually closely mirrors many of the statistics, I'm going to guess they're accurate. You're welcome to prove me otherwise.

You have provided no evidence whatsoever that these numbers are true. They may very well be accurate numbers, but it's not my responsibility to prove so or otherwise. You are the one who created the thread and made the claim. The onus is on you to back them up with a source. That's how it works. If this were a college course, you'd fail.

Like I said, you got this an email that was forwarded to you and you automatically believed it and pasted it here without even checking to see if it was accurate.

Deaths due to no insurance: USA-45k, rest of modern world- 0.
Bankruptcies due to health costs: USA- 750k, rest of modern world- 0

Health Care costs here are twice theirs, and their life expectancy is higher.

And your stats are bs.
