The extreme right is on an anti-government rampage. They now include all non-military government employees in their list of things and people they hate. They literally tell teachers, cops, firemen to "fuck off" (literal quote from several on USMB). For some reason, they exclude all military folks, even Coast Guardsmen who operate side by side with cops/firemen often times, and non-combat members of the military who..well, honestly never see combat. Thats fine too. I'm trying to understand the extreme right a bit better.

So.....I'd like them to comment on the greatness of the following GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEES of our country's past and present:

General George Patton: One of America's most legendary generals, fought countless Nazi armored columns. Was a...yep...government employee.

Steve Spurrier and Nick Saban: The states of South Carolina, Florida, Alabama and Louisiana are no doubt in right wing, GOP Tea Party country. Socialists not welcome. And those same right wingers in those four states CHEERED with pride and glory as Steve Spurrier and Nick Saban each, as head football coaches, brought glory to the Universities of Florida and South Carolina (Spurrier) and Louisiana State and U of Alabama (Nick Saban). Both men are the HIGHEST PAID GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEE in those states, and right wingers who hate "government waste" will cheer these men on this fall as they bring glory to those teams.

Tea Partiers....are you gonna protest the pay of these government employees who coach football? Is THAT the govt's job? You all will likely have a Gators or Crimson Tide bumper sticker right next to the yellow flag with a snake sticker.

George Washington: Yep. He was a government employee.
Abe Lincoln: Yep. Another government employee.

Sheriff Joe Arpaio: One of the TP and GOP's favorite cops. Sheriff Joe is unapologetically anti-illegal immigrant. Which I like too. The law is the law. The right loves him. He's a govt employee.

Neil Armstrong: He literally took America's greatness "out of this world". One of mankind's most heroic, history making men. A government employee.

That chick who shot the Fort Hood terrorist and ended his rampage: She doesn't get much publicity. The Islamic radical piece of shit terrorist was on his rampage. A female, civilian cop shot him and took his ass down. Government employee (but she's overpaid and shouldn't get a pension!!!!)

Ronald Reagan: Government employee. Believe it or not!

That dude that found the NY Time Square car bomb: He was investigating a suspicious vehicle, and OOPS!! Found a terrorist car bomb in Times Square. Just a no-name, Joe Blow street cop walking his beat. And yep....a dad gum gubermint employee!!

Those guys who were off the coast of Myrtle Beach, SC last week looking for several boaters in distress: Yep, all government employees, with the military's Coast Guard, and the civilian Myrtle Beach Police Dept and Myrtle Beach Fire Dept. Such a drain on us taxpayers!

Anyway.....just wondering who all the extreme right includes in the drain on tax dollars that is "GOVERNMENT WORKERS!!"

The point is to counter the outright hatred of the extreme right wing for people who happen to have jobs in the government.

Im waiting for the Tea Party of South Carolina, Alabama, Louisiana, Georgia and Florida to PROTEST openly against the government waste in those states of......the HIGHEST PAID GOVT EMPLOYEE IN EACH STATE:

SC- Head football coach at USC Steve Spurrier
LA- Head FB coach at LSU Les Miles
GA- Head FB coach at UGA Mark Richt
FL- Head FB coach at UF Will Muschamp
AL- Head FB coach at U of AL Nick Saban

If there is ANYTHING the Tea Party can protest, it's giving MILLIONS of dollars per year to one single government employee......to coach a freaking sport at a college.

Will the TP protest? Nope. They'll be drunk in the stands cheering the team on. Then whining about why the cop's pension is a waste of govt tax dollars. But hey, Bama is probably gonna win!

I'm waiting for someone to explain the point of this rant.

bucs has this fixation for firemen and cops and them extends it to all government employees.
He must have been laid off. No one in the Republican party is against government employees. They just want to know why the president is against private employers.

Wow!
Crazy round about way to make a stupid point.

It sounds like you are drunk.

A college football coach can mean tens of millions of dollars in revenue to a college which can then fund other sports such as men's and women's gynastics (which nobody watches). It is an economic decision.

As for the rest of your rant....I have no frame of reference.

A cop's pension should line up with what it takes to get good police officers. However, when I hear about seargents making 350 K (San Bernadino), the story changes.

So, once again, I am waiting for an explanation.

His point is we should ignore the problems we are facing and just keep expanding government without any thought to whether we can afford it.

And a safe city, with well educated work force, can provide a surge in private sector business and wealth.

But we dont justify paying cops great pay to get that. Why justify paying a damn coach that to get a good result?

Southern tax payers are broke, they'll tell their govt workers "sorry" or "fuck off", we're broke, you dont get the same benefits anymore, its too good, join "the rest of us".

Then the same rednecks will cheer on the Gamecocks or Crimson Tide...led by the highest paid govt employees on the state payroll. And not bitch one bit.

Bucs 90 are you a TB Buc fan by chance?

I invite any Republican to have a conversation with me about the public sector and what it offers. I can only offer up my experience as I work for NASA and work with many Govt GSA workers. I will gladly show them the benefit of the public sector.

His point is we should ignore the problems we are facing and just keep expanding government without any thought to whether we can afford it.

And the TP's point is to keep slashing government without any thought to the consequences it may cause.

I've NEVER lobbied to expand govt. In fact, I'm fine with shrinking it.

But my stance has always to keep funding police, fire, education until the very last resort. Until every city has cut it's parks and rec departments, there is no reason why police/fire should be taking cuts.

And yes, in unionized cities, there is a big problem.

My gripe has been far right Southern politicians slashing low paid, non-union PD's and FD's not out of necessity, but ideology.

I agree The police and firefighters should be the last who get cut. The politicians should be the first ones taking cuts.

Cutting First responders is a progressive trick to convince the people they shouldnt have to make any tough decisions.

Those are some bad examples. Those football programs - when winning, bring in millions upon millions in revenue.

That doe not mean we need to overpay the metermaid outside of the stadium.

YES I AM!!! Became one in 1990. A fairly distant relative played a couple seasons for them, hardly ever saw field though. I loved their old orange uniforms.

I spent 8 years as a patrol officer with Atlanta PD. I also can share much about what the public sector can do for society.

They misunderstand me. They call me a socialist, Obama-lover, etc, etc, etc. It's not that.

Its just that...I think I know the effects of extreme cuts to police, fire, schools would have. It's frightening to think about the dark side of US cities being unpatrolled, unenforced...but police cuts.

Any cool stuff from your NASA days you can share?

ABSOLUTELY RIGHT:clap2:

My recent anger....and I dont deny it, it's outright anger.......is that many of the far right politicians swept into power in the South in 2010 backed by the Tea Party have taken ideology to an extreme, and are slashing PD and FD at alarming rates. And many times, it is in cities that DONT have problems, or unions, and are already low paid (In the SOuth, PD and FD are paid far less than North/West).

You are exactly right. These folks down here cutting PD and FD would rather do that than cut Parks and Rec, or other services that people "like", and rather cut the ones people need, but wont notice it being gone for a while.

Not quite right. I'm not against all government employees, just the ones that make a living handing out checks, restricting my freedoms or providing "services" I don't want or need. That's virutally all the government employees who aren't in the military.
