Sad, Solar Power is bankrupt but Congress has promised to prop it up with Trillions of tax payer money.

The Left Is Already Pushing The New Solar Jobs ā€˜Reportā€™ As Good News. Donā€™t Buy It.

latest annual Solar Jobs Census from the Solar Foundation, which concluded that the solar industry is contributing to ā€œrobustā€ U.S. job growth, and left-leaning outlets are alreadystarting to champion the report as evidence that we the solar industry is booming and merits further investment.

Donā€™t buy it.

The Solar Energy Industries Association is the trade association tasked with promoting the development and expansion of solar power, predominately staffed by former solar company and trade association lobbyists with ties to government solar advocacy programs. So letā€™s all agree here that they are not exactly objective.

After reviewing the reportā€™s key findings, the Taxpayers Protection Alliance found that it is laced with references to the large percentage growth in solar jobs that belie the actually figures, which are in reality quite anemic.

For example, the 2015 report stated:

The solar industry continues to support robust job growth, creating 35,052 new jobs in 2015, a growth rate of approximately twelve times greater than that of the overall economy. U.S. businesses added just over 2.4 million jobs over 2015, a growth rate of 1.74% ā€“ the solar industry grew by 20%, accounting for 1.2% of all new jobs.

Letā€™s un-package whatā€™s actually happening here. The relatively low base numbers compared to the overall economy for solar jobs means that, percentage-wise, solar job growth will seem impressive compared to the overall economy. This is where the deception comes into play. Suppose the solar industry had one job in 2015 and two jobs in 2016 and the utility industry had 500,000 jobs in 2015 and 560,000 jobs in 2016. This would mean the solar job growth percentage would be 100% to the utility job growth of 12%. But should we really view the reported percentage increases as evidence of a substantial growth rate? Of course not.

I am laughing at you man. Yep, the first and second most installed energy sources by the private sector in 2015 is bankrupt. You're a funny guy!
Solar is not a source of energy, Solar output for the last 8 hours is zero.

Private sector? A flat out lie.

1st, Solar is built on public land.
2nd, it is given grants.
3rd, it is given tax credits which they sell

That is pure government crony corruption.

You know that the Taxpayers Protection Alliance is a front organization that funnels Koch brothers dark money don't you? Next time try going with a credible source.

Nice try, my link is to Solar Secrets, not to the Tax Payers Alliance.

Dark money? Like the money that the Koch brothers earned is bad money?

Tell us where the "goood" money comes from.

Solar has so much potential, but all the crony capitalism that has gotten into it is bogging it down, in a slow parasitical death spiral.

For example, why cant every home owner buy solar panels and get paid for the extra electricity they pump into the power grid? Answer - because the power companies would lose money.

Why cant anyone build a solar powered farm and have direct access tot he grid back bone like any other power generator? Answer; because the power companies use this as a means to limit power production so they can keep their prices higher.

Until this bullshit is ended, solar power will never live up to its potential.

Yes dumb ass. I know that. The article states it is based on remarks by the Taxpayers Alliance. Why don't you get an adult to read your own link to you and tell you what it says? dumb ass

With solar input at over 1300% percent of total human energy consumption at all times, it is merely a matter of time and determination before reason overtakes greed.

Well, to begin, 20,000 or more us a lot of money to spend on electricity.

Then there is a tiny fact that is over looked, more than half the homes do not face the correct direction towards the sun

Then in winter the sun is much further in the southern sky giving substantially less energy, so much so that it actually gets freezing in much of the USA

And of course for the houses that are oriented towards the sun, half of the roof still faces the long direction.

And let's not forget that in the dusty southwest you got to use pure clean water to clean those panels, and water is hard to come by.

Economically and technically, it was simply efficient to build one power plant for 500,000 people instead of each individual having their own individual power plant.

From my link, a simple truthful statement.

Why rooftop solar is disruptive to utilitiesā€”and the grid
When the federal government subsidizes ANYTHING, the consequences are inefficiency and corruption. This has been true since Lincoln subsidized the railroads. Somehow, American taxpayers have not learned this age old lesson...in short, it is very much like racketeering the Mafia made famous.

From that website....
As if Solyndraā€™s monumental failure was not enough of a blow to taxpayers, a new report from the Department of Energy inspector general four years in the making finds the infamous solar company deliberately deceived Energy to secure millions of dollars from the federal government (read: taxpayers). Whatā€™s more, it appears the Obama administration was at the helm of the scandal. Thereā€™s no surprise that the administration refuses to see the truth about solar power considering that the vice president pledged an additional $102 million grant program for companies, universities and research laboratories to further expand solar power use. It is clear that the administration is ignoring all warning signs and doing whatever it can to shovel more tax money to an unproven and financially risky power source. Solyndra quickly became synonymous with wasteful spending and government absurdity after it received $535 million from taxpayers then went bankrupt.

That sentence makes no sense to me. Can you restate it?

As the efficiency of the panels improves, most people have plenty of roof space that is oriented correctly enough to generate more power than they need. You dont have to have an impossible roof that somehow has all sides oriented toward the sun.

In fact, just putting up enough panels to cut your electrical bill in half is sufficient for most people if the costs could come down, but the industry is so miniscule that it is hard to find contractors with enough experience to bring down the costs competitively.

The solar industry is being strangled by the power companies who have reduced Obama's program to being a mere cash cow to suck Federali funds from.

Economically and technically, it was simply efficient to build one power plant for 500,000 people instead of each individual having their own individual power plant.

Centralized power generation will never be as efficient as distributed power networks because the loss of power from its generation at the plant to the transmission lines reduces power generated by the station vrs power delivered tot he home by about 80%.

How big are Power line losses? - Schneider Electric Blog

Considering the main parts of a typical Transmission & Distribution network, here are the average values of power losses at the different steps*:

  • 1-2% ā€“ Step-up transformer from generator to Transmission line
  • 2-4% ā€“ Transmission line
  • 1-2% ā€“ Step-down transformer from Transmission line to Distribution network
  • 4-6% ā€“ Distribution network transformers and cables
The overall losses between the power plant and consumers is then in the range between 8 and 15%.

Is it the biggest challenge?
This must not be mixed up with the efficiency of power plants like nuclear, coal-fired or natural gas turbine. These technologies are based on a thermodynamic cycle, which efficiency is in the order of 35%. This means that the combustion of coal, for example, will produce heat, which will be converted into mechanical energy and then into electricity.

So right out of the gate, the power generating plant loses 65% of the power it generates. Solar panels coming out only lose 60%, then centralized power generation loses another 15% over the transmission network. Solar panels on you roof dont lose nearly so much power and the energy lost in its inefficiency is simply sunlight it failed to absorb, not generated then wasted.

Show me an industry where that is NOT the case.

So how does all this relate to the impediments put in place to make it pointless for home owners like me to not put solar panels on my roof and lower my energy bill?

There is no good reason; there is only the greed and corruption of the power companies that have state governments in their grip.

What impediments are you referring to?

I have a close friend in Fresno CA who has a large array of solar on his roof. He regularly sells energy back to the energy company thus lowering his energy bills considerably. I am unaware of any impediments he faces, though I suspect you are right since big uncontrolled corrupt government sucks.

The laws regarding the generation of your own energy vary from state to state. Here in Virginia, when I checked on this about 5 years ago, the power company only had to lower your energy use measure by however much you generated. They also had the right to buy your excess energy at whatever price they wanted to offer you, and at the time they wouldnt go much over what the typical large home needed to run. They also had, entirely understandable, standards for hooking up to the network, but you had to get certified installers and those are rare.

God willing, our retirement cottage will have some solar panels on the ground up hill and we will store the excess for later use with deep cycle batteries. But right now our energy consumption does not financially justify installing solar panels.

Power generating plant loses? Do you mean "capacity factor"? Rooftop Solar is insignificant, and will always be insignificant. Never will rooftop solar be anything more than a government giveaway of other people's money.

Rooftop solar can never ever supply the energy needed to run industry nor to even pump the water a house needs.

Of course you ignore the intermittent nature of Solar power, that is not a concern?

I guess the easiest comparison will be, to think of those high tension power lines, they carry an incredible amount of power, the inefficiency of Solar is easy to see, adding enough roof top solar panels to provide that kind of power is simply an idea of lunacy, just the amount of transfer stations stepping up the power would be ridiculous.

20,000 dollars we are to spend, on top of what we already pay, and this to a corporation that you dictate. Tyranny is your idea.
