Socialism is Communism

Socialism is Communism it never works and definantly not in AMERICA ever

Milwaukee had THREE socialist mayors in the first half of the twentieth century.

Emil Seidel (1910-1912)

During his administration the first public works department was established, the first fire and police commission was organized, and a city park system came into being. Seidel cleaned the town up with strict regulation of bars and the closing of brothels and sporting parlors (modern-day casinos). It was also during his administration that he employed the noted American poet and author Carl Sandburg for a brief time. It was Seidel's socialist inclinations that attracted Sandburg to Milwaukee.

Daniel Hoan (1916-1940)

Hoan remained mayor for twenty-four years, the longest continuous Socialist administration in United States history. He brought in a large number of progressive reforms including the country's first public housing project, Garden Homes, started in 1923. Hoan also led the successful drive towards municipal ownership of the stone quarry, street lighting, sewage disposal and water purification.

During his administration the first bus system in the United States came into being after a number of pedestrians were run over by street trolleys that ran down the middle of the road.

A highway system was started under his administration, but federal funding was scarce. The system included the Hoan Bridge, which was constructed starting in 1970 and completed in 1972, but remained un-open to the public until 1977.

Hoan developed a reputation for honest and efficient government. In 1999, Melvin Holli, the author of The American Mayor, and a group of experts on local government, voted Hoan as the eighth best mayor in United States history

Frank P. Zeidler (1948-1960)

During Frank Zeidler's administration, Milwaukee grew industrially and never had to borrow money to repay loans. During this period, Milwaukee nearly doubled its size with a very aggressive campaign of municipal annexations. Large parts of the Town of Lake and most of the Town of Granville were annexed to the city during this era. The park system was upgraded. Federal funding was obtained to complete the highway system that had started under Daniel Hoan.

So in other words, you get the epic fail pin of the day:

Jasper McLevy (1933-1957)

In the early 1930s, Bridgeport, an industrial city in southern Connecticut, was plagued by corruption and hard hit by the Great Depression. In 1931, voters had ousted the incumbent Republican mayor for Democrat Edward Buckingham, but by 1933, dissatisfaction had spread to both parties. McLevy surprised the media and the public by winning the election, along with a Socialist majority on the Board of Aldermen, Bridgeport's city council. McLevy went on to be reelected eleven times.

While he was a Socialist, McLevy was known for his fiscal restraint. When asked, after a snow storm, when the City would begin plowing snow, McLevy allegedly replied, "God put the snow there, let him take it away." McLevy gained a reputation for balancing budgets, reducing spending and micromanaging city affairs. In the vernacular of the time, McLevy was referred to as a "sewer socialist", a pragmatist who focused on the details of running a city.

In 1957, after twenty-four years of service, McLevy was defeated for reelection. He died in 1962.

J. Henry Stump (June 4, 1880 - May 15, 1949) was an American Socialist politician and mayor of Reading, Pennsylvania 1927 - 1931, 1935 - 1939 and 1943 - 1947.

George R. Lunn

He was Mayor of Schenectady, New York from 1912 to 1913 and from 1916 to 1917, elected on the Socialist ticket, and from 1920 to 1922, elected as a Democrat.

More failure on OP's part. Do your history next time.

Nice, you found some successful socialist. Well congrates. So, what kind of socialist are they. The soft socialist, that believe in welfare. Or, the hardcore socialist that believes in nationalization of all privately owned properties, and the abolishment of money?

Socialism on the national scale might be different than socialism of a mayor.

You get the Apples and Oranges pin for the day.

Well the argument was that socialism on any scale doesn't work in this country.

So I gave a argument about socialism at least on a certain scale works in this country.

By the way, by definition you just want to put as many Liberals under the word "socialist" as possible huh?

You pay taxes right? You may not like it but you see the need for them correct?

Socialist.

Socialists working in a state which has a long history of being split between rednecks and Minnesota type liberals. Back then they most likely would have been in favor of help, especially given farm conditions, but none too keen on equal rights.

Again, the claim was that Socialism has never worked in the United States.

I disproved a claim and proved the opposite.

In a organized debate, I would win. Simple concept.

Not saying differently, just making an observation about a state I'm fairly familiar with. Summer home and all. Seriously Scitzoid state. Far left/Far right, simultaneously. :cuckoo:

Well it is interestingly enough the only city in American history to elect three socialist mayors.

And they seem to be just doing quite fine currently.

In fact, the three socialist mayors perhaps combined made more strides in making the city better then the non-socialists. Although it is close.

Robert's right. The OP was ridiculous. Socialism and Communism are not one in the same. Let me also add that the consensus from Vermont is that Bernie Sanders does one hell of a job representing that state as a Socialist US Senator....although as a socialist without a party, he votes with the deomcrats most of the time.
