So you can't afford an AC-130 for 350 million? Armed V-22

Waves of small, cheap, highly effective weapons.

At about 67 mill per copy, the MV-22 would be a low cost alternative the AC-130, yes. But it's still got on hell of a price tag. The Army is betting on the new V-280 which is smaller and cheaper and should come in for about the cost of a normal medium lift chopper, the UH-60. It wouldn't be surprised if the Army arms arms a few of them as well just like they did the UH-1.

Or Escourt!...

“Men still live who, in their youth, remember pigeons; trees still live who, in their youth, were shaken by a living wind. But a few decades hence only the oldest oaks will remember, and at long last only the hills will know.”

Why the Passenger Pigeon Went Extinct

APKWS has been slowly spreading to more and more platforms. I'm think it started USN (not 100% sure) for arming Firescout and MH-60 to defend against swarm boat attacks, then USMC was putting them on AH-1s in Afghanistan. Now they are mounted on several fixed wing aircraft as well, from A-10 to F-16s. They have been used in the Middle East and are now produced by the thousands.
