Obama could lock in Afghanistan decision Monday

WASHINGTON – The White House said President Barack Obama could use an unusual evening war council session Monday to lock in his long-awaited decision on whether to commit tens of thousands of new U.S. forces to the stalemated war in Afghanistan.

Military officials and others said they expect Obama to settle on a middle-ground option that would deploy an eventual 32,000 to 35,000 U.S. forces to the 8-year-old conflict.

That rough figure has stood as the most likely option since before Obama's last large war council meeting earlier this month, when he tasked military planners with rearranging the timing and makeup of some of the deployments....

Seems the sticking point is costs. We know this president is so fiscally conservative. :doubt:

But...but...maybe someone unplugged Barry's teleprompter 80-some days ago after Gen. McChrystal's troop request so he hasn't been able to respond yet?

Or, maybe he wrote his decision down on paper and the new first dog ate it?

Then again he's been pretty busy on the links trying to work down the presidential score, so he'll get around to it one of these days. Meanwhile, you men in women over there just hang on. He'll get back to you some time, maybe.

He will do the wrong thing and continue a pointless war.

No, you're thinking of Iraq. Afghanistan is the right war, Obama said so. One wonders therefore why it's taking so long.

As a POTUS, Obama is a fine community organizer. Fucking useless POTUS.

He already blew this, simply by not being able to lead.

Mike

Taking time to ensure that there are measurable and attainable goals, not to mention a clear-cut, black and white set of circumstances that define "success" beats the hell out of flying by the seat of one's pants.* Many of the issues that we've had in both Iraq and Afghanistan are the result of PPP.**

*See Iraq, circa 2003-2009.
**Piss Poor Planning.

The sticking point is a viable exit strategy.

Comes to healthcare, and congress works the weekend. Comes to our troops dying, and they all fuck off for Thanksgiving.

This is why I despise politicians.
