So Romney was right about the Olympic Preparations

Link to exact quote where Romney said they weren't ready for the Olympics.

Exact quote.

Link?
"The stories about the private security firm not having enough people, the supposed strike of the immigration and customs officials -- that obviously is not something which is encouraging," he told NBC News.

"Do they come together and celebrate the Olympic moment? And that's something which we only find out once the games actually begin," he said.

Mitt Romney Walks Back London Olympics Criticism (UPDATE)

see the problem with your OP is you're not being honest and telling only half the story...Well more like 1/4 of the story.
Thats the problem with trash like you. You are as partisan as you are stupid and you are only hurting things, not helping.

Anyone with half a brain who watched the evolution of mittens on this one issue knows he back pedaled when pressed.this isnt even an important issue and he folded.

Your insults mean nothing to me. My OP stands with truth. Romney never back pedalled. Only the headlines back pedalled.

Show me one just one direct quote where Romney said that Britain wasn't ready for the games.

Direct quote. Direct link.

I already answered you dipshit.

They didn't have adequate security in the run up. The security company contracted to provide it fucked up. Mitt was right. The Brits had to call in the Army, and police forces from around England had to send extra officers. Which bit of those facts is above your intellectual paygrade?

Define adequate security? Did you or Mr. Etch-a-Sketch know what their threat assessment was? No, because it would be crappy if they told you. Did you or Mr. Etch-a-Sketch have any clue as to the brinksmanship usually played by unions that are allowed to exercise their rights, and strike? No, because neither you nor Mittens has a clue about Europe's unions. To state that they had real security problems was a slap in the face to Britain, and was compounded that it was done by someone who is seeking our top leadership role, compounded the problem.

I don't blame them for getting pissed off. If Romney's flip-flop is to be believable, he should have added those caveats in his initial criticism. He should have at least educated himself to the problems, in the cultural dynamic of British psyche, before running his mouth.

This is just one foreign policy gaff of Romney. I personally think his stupidest one was that Russia is our number one threat. And on a more personal level, I don't think that we'll ever have the Olympic pageantry that we had in Berlin '36 or Beijing '06, but I don't really want it if it comes with the baggage or repressive dictatorships.

For fucks sake, it was all over the British media in the run up to the games.

Olympics Security Firm Apologizes - WSJ.com

During a tense appearance before the Home Affairs Committee Tuesday, G4S Chief Executive Nick Buckles apologized for the company’s mishandling of the contract, which has forced the army and police to step in to fill the gap. He blamed the problems on scheduling systems that had failed to effectively register staff and acknowledged that his company’s reputation was in tatters.

Mr. Buckles also told lawmakers that G4S planned to still claim the £57 million ($89.1 million) management fee, which is part of the overall £284 million contract. That brought a further rebuke from the politicians. “I find that astonishing,” said the committee’s chair, Keith Vaz. A spokesman for G4S, one of the world’s largest security companies, said the management fee paid for the interviewing and screening of more than 100,000 applicants.

Politicians repeatedly pressed Mr. Buckles about why the problems only came to light so close to the Games, at times appearing to become frustrated at a lack of direct answers. Panel members also questioned whether the botched job indicated broader management problems at the U.K. company and whether he was the right person to continue to head the company.

Do you think their CEO got hauled in front of an inquiry for because he was a few people short? No. Fucking thousands short.... 3,500 thousand. The Brits had to call in the military and extra police.

idiot.

So a private security firm is unable to deliver the minimum wage bodies to make sure that no one is pushing or shoving through the various venue gates. BFD. I'll guarantee you that after Munich and Atlanta, their government had bigger fish to fry. The rent-a-cops have been augmented. We'll see if we can stop their soccer hooligans from throwing shit on the field.

But if that's the nickels and dimes that someone running for president want's to throw in the mix, it just shows Romney as not ready to make the Big Decisions. Romney hasn't a clue. He's an empty suit who speaks out both sides of his mouth. Tell me if you agree with this: The difference between Obamacare and Romneycare, is that Romney care paid for optional abortions.

Mittens would do well to keep his opinion to himself.

It was an accurate assessment by someone who's been there and done that.

He could have done it where it mattered.
But, it was a way to make himself look good, and show us he is a braggert.

And if he was right, why did he backpeddle after his meeting on Downing Street?

No, they were providing actual security... including using x-ray equipment to stop people like terrorists getting into the games. Very little to do with 'pushing and shoving' and everything do to with national security. DumbFuck.

Fact... the Brit media were all over the story for weeks... speculating about Britain's readiness to host the games, because of the security issues, because their passport control staff were threatening a strike, as were a host of transport workers. There were certainly legitimate questions over their readiness.

Your demand that I answer an off topic question is ignored.

If a woman is overweight, and she knows it, and you know it, do you still walk up to her in the middle of a party and say it?

No.

True or not, Romney fucked up.

Yeah I like how you argue, apples to pineapples....not the same thing. Are you really comparing worrying about olympic security to being honest with Roseanne Barr? seriously?

Nope. Not at all.

But as I said, tact is tact. You either have it or you don't.

He was asked a question, he answered it. To me, that's quite rational... to you it's being a 'braggart'... but you're a hack and I'm not.

If he was so confident, why did he shake the Etch-a-Sketch and backpedal?

Same question I asked Plas. Where when and how did he backpedal. I know the lib media had screaming headlines a typical Axelrod move, but where and how did Romney backpedal from what?

You have such a bullshit argument out there and such a fabricated issue you can't make heads or tails off the disney world viewpoint that Romney "blundered".

He never blundered. He told the truth. Fucks you guys up doesn't it?

Indeed, he was right. The issues he referred to:

1. a security company contracted to provide thousands of security personnel who did not deliver on their contract. The Brit military got called in to fill the breach. Police forces from around the country had to send extra officers to London to back up their police presence... leaving other areas of the country with less police.

2. Union workers undertaking passport control threatened to strike over pay and conditions the day before the games started.

3. London taxi drivers also threatened industrial action over the use of 'Olympic lanes' on the roads.

Even the British media were speculating that they were not ready.

then why did he say they Where ready a few days later?

OH that wasnt mittens you tell me? Just a robotic clone?

Seriously you people will defend anything.

The great thing is you just made my argument for me. He is saying with your evidence they are not ready. Which is what Tinydouche wanted to know.

And then we can use the direct quote that he stated they are ready..

I love it, I just love how easy you morons make this.

A gd idiot W clone, but with no personality. Another Pub disaster in the making...

Romney's ACTUAL plan- Cut taxes on rich, destroy Medicare/aid, Health Reform, raise pentagon spending, cut regs on Wall St, worry about debt in 2035...BRILLIANT

Do you just cut and paste this for every topic? do you ever actually ADD anything to a debate....I think the word is TOOL

Truth is so repetitive, corporate chump. TS

You and the truth have yet to meet.

He said they weren't ready because it was plastered all over the media that there were security issues, and strike issues both at London's major airport and it's transport system... both would be clues to a lack of readiness. Then he met with Cameron, who - no doubt - talked to him about what steps were being taken by the government in order to ensure they were ready... and that convinced Romney that the Brits could pull it off. And they did.

Where, exactly, did I say it wasn't Mitt who said that? Could you please keep the voices in your head out of your posting? It makes you look like a delusional freak... claiming I said things I didn't say.

It is, however, not at all surprising that hacks don't understand basic logic.

Romney was in complete charge of an Olympics, which put him in a unique position to discuss security for the Olympics, and he wasn't the only one to question some of the issues concerning security.

Probably wasn't politically smart since he should have known how anything he say's at this point will be disected over and over.

If someone's being racist, I'm going to call him on it. I'm tired of you guys cowardly tip-toeing.

Man the fuck up or shut the fuck up.

Trouble is, obamabots like yourself don't remember what racism is anymore. To you mindless animatons, disagreeing with obama, or even quoting him, is racist.

Nobody cares anymore. You all have taken the sting out of the label. Now, we only point it out when you use it because it's our way of telling that we've won the argument.

Keep up the good work there!

People like CrusaderFrank and WillowTree and others use terms like "Kenyan" and "not a real American" and "Socialist" and "Marxist" because they are too big of cowards to use the word they want to use. The N-word.

It's blatantly obvious and you defending them is pretty sad.

Your blantantly being stoopid!

The Libs most likely didn't want Romney to say something like this...if he had overlooked it and said nothing, they could have said "BUT ROMNEY SHOULD HAVE KNOWN!" when something happens.

heh heh Yeah, because the whole world is against Romney.

Not at all. The world does know Romney was right if understated.

Didn't you see the Der Spiegel hit piece on Britain over the Olympics? Man it was scathing.

Think about how insane it was that just before the opening it's discovered the security firm that was hired privately hired teenagers  and were 3,500 personnel short while collecting millions of pounds for this fiasco.

You do know Cameron had to summon up the troops don't you?

You're missing the point. I don't think anyone is saying what Willard said was wrong or inaccurate. But that doesn't mean he was right to say it when he did

Presidents need to have tact.

Like presenting the Queen with an Ipod kind of tact? Puleeeeeeeease!

No, I'll say it. I'll say it about Myself as well. I have no need to spare other peoples feelings.

If your fat, you know it and should not be offended by it. If you are offended, lose the fucking weight.

Romney was right and the Brits need to just fucking man up, say, "Yeah, we're kind of not ready, but doing better every day" and let it go at that.

If you are offended at everything, then go fuck yourself. I am not going to spare your feelings.

We all know that Governor Romney was completely correct in his assessment of the Preps for the Games. Yet the left wingers and their media still insist this was a Romney "blunder".

Just shows what idiotic partisan hacks the left have become. Great op ed on this.

Media should consider mentioning that Romney was right about Olympic preps

Here’s a sampling of headlines regarding the botched preparations:

*”London Olympics security gaps mount as athletes arrive”: This story referred to the failures as an out-and-out “scandal.”

*”Olympic security chaos: depth of G4S security crisis revealed”: This story contains this line: “Guards told how, with 14 days to go until the Olympics opening ceremony, they had received no schedules, uniforms or training on x-ray machines.”

*”British Parliament Criticizes Olympic Security Preparations”: This story opens: “A British parliamentary committee report released Thursday says confidence in the London Olympics has been weakened by a private contractor’s failure to provide enough security guards.”

*”Olympic security scandal hits London”

Great links at the link I'll give you.

The Post captured the dynamic:

Olympics organizers have had to cope with a series of security blunders, including a disclosure that the private contractor hired to provide guards for the Games was 3,500 staff members short. The military scrambled to fill in the gap.

Still, the hosts did not seem to appreciate a foreign visitor reminding them about the problems.

Yes, he was.
