So now we decide who to charge with crimes based on a poll?

The right wing in American would be the first to complain about a government police state and yet in the greatest show of hypocrisy in modern times if the same government police brutalize citizens of a certain background all is fine. Put that in your mental blender and come up with moral sense. They can defend a scofflaw in Nevada and cowardly pretend cop in Florida, but defend the rights of other American citizens sure turns their heads upside down.

"The main hypothesis concerning group-think is this: the more amiability and espirt de corps among the members of an in-group of policymakers the greater the danger that independent critical thinking will be replaced by groupthink, which is likely to result in irrational and the dehumanizing actions directed at out-groups." Irving L. Janis in 'Sanctions for Evil'

The left and these criminals have something very much in common.

They have both cried wolf so many times, no one takes their complaints seriously anymore.

Every criminal decries excessive force and police brutality. But for some strange reason, they never seem to deny the police the opportunity to exercise their "excessive brutality" by surrendering peacefully.

And when have the wolf criers been correct on the left? Zimmerman, acquitted. Darren Wilson, exonerated. Hands up, don't shoot, debunked.
Zimmerman....acquitted
Darren Wilson....exonerated
Hands up don't shoot....debunked
Tawana Brawley.....a fraud and a liar
Duke Lacrosse team accuser.....a fraud and a liar

Who is the common denominator in all...and who's wealth and lifestyle increased dramatically since the Tawana Brawley farce?

The prosecutor, Mosby, has already stepped on a turd by describing the knife as legal when clearly it is not. It makes her look totally incompetent.

Mosby Statement Reflects Jurisdictional Sloppiness

As we noted in our Friday post on Mosby’s statement, it also reflects remarkable jurisdictional sloppiness, especially coming from a state prosecutor who works primarily in the relevant subsidiary jurisdiction of that state. As reported by the New York Times, Mosby is quoted as explicitly stating that:

  • The knife was not a switchblade and is lawful under Maryland law. (emphasis added)

Maryland law, however, is utterly irrelevant to Gray’s arrest, because he was not arrested for a violation of Maryland law. Rather he was arrested for a violation of the City Code of Baltimore.

The City of Baltimore has adopted as an ordinance, its City Code §59-22, which states in relevant part:

  • Switch-blade knives. (a) Possession or sale, etc., prohibited. It shall be unlawful for any person to sell, carry, or possess any knife with an automatic spring. (emphasis added)

The description of the charge brought against Gray explicitly provides that he

  • did unlawfully carry, possess and sell a knife commonly known as a switch blade knife, with an automatic spring or other device for opening and/or closing the blade within the limits of Baltimore City. (emphasis added)
Freddie Gray Baltimore Prosecutor Marilyn Mosby

Spring assist knife vs true switchblade.

The guy opens that first knife with his finger after releasing the blade lock.

I can only take their word for it. I've never owned or handled a spring assisted knife. They are deemed illegal in some St. Louis Municipalities.

of course, no one seems to care as to why he was hanging out on the streets with a spring assisted knife to begin with. I mean, to think, or to say t5hat any use of it or any reason to carry it while on a city street is likely sinister in nature will be deemed racist.

After all, he may have planned to use it if he was attacked by a bear or a coyote.

It is sad the man died...but I have no sympathy for a guy carrying a spring assisted knife out on a city street and who resists arrest

So now we decide who to charge with crimes based on a poll?

What do you think a Grand Jury is?

GJ's are empanelled, Yahoo news polls are not. They are entirely different... please tell me you understand this.

Of fucking Christ, no, I don't see the difference. Are you seriously trying to say that the fact that a Grand Jury is in fact a Grand Jury somehow changes the fact that they take a poll to decide whether to indict? Of all the asinine bullshit that I've seen on this board, your post has got to be the dumbest thing ever. Keep it up, you're going to replace Rdean as the biggest idiot at USMB.

So, you read a post about how a Yahoo news poll reports that 61% support indicting these officers and you reference a GJ as an equivocation and I'm dumb?

You actually just replaced rdean as the biggest cementhead here. Well played!

lol, if the poll had found that most Americans disapproved of the charges the RWnuts would be throwing an even bigger fit against Mosby.

Specifically, here are just the NYC cases, and just those that happened on Giuliani's watch:

  • 1994: Anthony Baez died after being arrested by NYPD Officer Francis X. Livoti.[86] A lawsuit filed by the Baez family was later settled for $3 million.[87] Livoti was found guilty of violating Baez's civil rights in federal court and sentenced to seven years in prison.
  • 1996: Unarmed Nathaniel Levi Gaines was shot in the back by NYPD officer Paolo Colecchia on the train platform at 167th Street and the Grand Concourse. Colechia shot Gaines as he fled down the deserted Bronx subway platform. Coleccia was sentenced to up to 15 years in prison for the killing and was only the third NYPD officer to receive a prison sentence for committing an on-duty homicide.[88]
  • August 1997: Abner Louima was sodomized with a broken broomstick handle while detained in a New York City police station by Officer Justin Volpe. Louima was left bleeding from the rectum in a booking cell. Despite an initial cover-up by various members of the NYPD, Volpe was convicted of assault and sentenced to 30 years in prison.[89] Two officers were convicted of the cover-up while one was acquitted.
  • 1999: Unarmed Guinea immigrant Amadou Diallo was shot 41 times and killed by NYPD officers, who claimed he was reaching for a gun. Diallo's family received a $3 million lawsuit settlement.[90][91]

Why not? Zimmerman killed a black kid based on a feeling and right wingers sent Zimmerman hundreds of thousands of dollars for a job will done.

Zimmerman was convicted of what exactly?
I don't know. Since I never said he was convicted of anything, what makes you ask that question.

But he sure does get charged a lot, doesn't he?

Past incidents of police brutality in Maryland, mostly Baltimore:

  • June 25, 2003: Albert Mosely was arrested for a probation violation and transported to the Baltimore Police Department's Western District stationhouse, where he became involved in an altercation with Officer Bryan Kershaw. Mosely was still handcuffed when Officer Kershaw picked him up and threw him into the concrete wall of a holding cell. Mosley was rendered quadriplegic, sued the city, and was awarded $44 million in damages. The city appealed and the suit was eventually settled for $6 million.[53][54]
  • June 5, 2008: Tyrone Brown, a United States Marine, was fatally shot by an off-duty Baltimore police officer, Gahiji Tshamba. After partying at a night club, Brown made a sexual advance toward Tshamba's girlfriend. Tshamba pushed Brown away and shot him. Tshamba claimed Brown was being aggressive and he was in fear for his life. However, witnesses said that Brown was turning to leave when Tshamba shot him. Tshamba was subsequently convicted of manslaughter and sentenced to 15 years in prison.[55][56]
  • 2011: Baltimore police officer Anthony Williams assaulted and severely injured Antoine Green. Williams was convicted by a jury of assault and hindering the investigation that followed.[57][58]
  • 2012: District Heights Sgt. Johnnie Riley shot handcuffed motorcyclist Calvin Kyle during a traffic stop. Kyle was paralyzed from the waist down. Riley was found guilty of assault and using a handgun during a violent crime. He was sentenced to 5 years in prison.[59]
  • 2012: Baltimore police officers wrongfully beat Ashley Overbey in her own home after she reported a burglary in progress, according to her lawsuit that was settled for $63,000.[58]
  • 2013: Baltimore police officers wrongfully shot Odatei Mills, according to his lawsuit that was settled for $1 million.[58]
  • 2000's: A Baltimore police officer wrongfully assaulted and injured an 87-year-old woman, according to her lawsuit that was settled for $95,000.[58]
  • 2000's: A Baltimore police officer wrongfully assaulted and injured a pregnant woman, according to her lawsuit that was settled for $125,000.[58]

That's impossible!!!

If that were true, it would mean the police are willing, capable and proven defenders of the citizenry from police abuses.

That they investigate, prosecute and convict their own on a regular basis WITHOUT the need for rioting, looting and attacks on police.

That protests starting the very day an incident occurs, without a shred of evidence, and without even allowing for an investigation, is a knee jerk reaction with no basis in fact, since you just proved police DO jail their own WITHOUT rioting in the street.

How about, in the future, we let the police do their job FIRST, and if then, after obtaining the facts, and without a rush to judgement, make informed decisions on the validity of the conclusions drawn by police investigators and the judgment of prosecutors in charging or refusing to charge those involved.

But, but, but...you say...that runs directly counter to your agenda?

Sorry, can't help you with that.

Racist teapers are irrational. They make shit up and can't believe the majority of Americans DON'T subscribe to their hate narrative. My suggestion to the teapers who think they aren't racist...go to another forum that is not a hate forum to see how true conservatives think.
