Sky News joins BBC in refusing to air Gaza fundraiser

Why are they 'right' in doing this? Won't it just get people who want to help a way to do so?

It would violate their editorial commitment to report the news in an even handed way.
News? I thought it was letting people now about a fundraiser... not reporting, for example what one side did and not what the other did...

Showing pictures of the damage in Gaza and describing the suffering of the Gazans without balancing that picture by showing this same people dancing in the streets and handing out candy to celebrate the news Israeli civilians had been blown up by a suicide bomb packed with nails and rat poison or barrages of Hamas' screaming rockets landing in civilian areas and nearly a million Israelis spending much of their time huddling in bomb shelters would present a one sided picture of the conflict that would be inappropriate for a news organization.

So, why don't they show it all - wouldn't showing MORE be better than showing LESS?
They could show Israeli students shouting death to arabs ( globeandmail.com: Anti-Arab sentiment swells among youth in aftermath of Gaza war ), or anti-war Israeli protesters being arrested - the usual stuff we all saw on TV every night, you know. Balanced.

Help what? Raise money for more missiles? If Hamas was interested in their people a) they wouldn't use them as shields; b) they wouldn't sell supplies that come into the country.

Well, Hamas was elected because they took care of many social needs, and offered much in the way of services to the people. Why do you think Hamas would completely ignore the suffering of their fellow citizens - when many of these people are likely family members?

Sounds far-fetched.

Martyrdom explains it all to those people.

You know....I think we should offer all the Hamas people the same option that an Air Force Captain who flew with my old squadron (VFA-131 Wildcats) used to say.......

He kept a plaque on his desk. Really nice brass, about 1 ft by 2 ft.

It had a picture on one side. One that was taken from the Viet Nam War. You know, the one that showed a guy chained to a tree and being pulled in half backwards?

Next to the picture was a quote. It said........

"As American Fighting Men, we have an obligation to offer our enemies EVERY CHANCE to give their life for their country."

Now, in my humble little opinion as a knuckle dragging Sailor (as I've been referenced to here on these very boards), I would like to state the following.....

Hamas should be offered the very same thing by Israel and the USA.

But......the American Revolutionaries were not marching in behind the civilians, taking shots at the British, they were hiding in trees while the civilians WERE AWAY FROM THE BATTLEFIELD.

Did your parents have any children that lived?

First of all, welcome back.

We are used to terrorism and cowardly attacks, we fear no one and never cry over spilt milk.

thank you.

and, England sure does have a long history of dealing with native populations rebuking British colonies, eh? What is your opinion, as a Brit, when it comes to comparing Ireland's reaction to English with the Pali reaction to zionism?
