It sounds like you could just step off the world into a better place.

The tiny island is home to around 10,000 puffins and a thousand sheep, but only 60 people. It's so remote that the only way to get there is by an 8-seater plane or ferry -- which can be postponed for weeks on end due to rough seas.

That's one of those places where a broken leg can be life threatening because there isn't a physician close by. Do they pay well?

Because the job requires being on-call 24/7 in a remote location, the nurse receives a "distant island allowance" in addition to a regular salary.

But there is nowhere to spend it.

I like the idea of remote communities. I think that all Celts have a streak of romantic melancholy in our souls. Its what makes us irresistible to women.
