    Why would you care if the state doesn't recognize his marriages?

    Consequently this case has nothing to do with marriage, there is no ‘demand for equality.’ The law prohibiting persons from obtaining multiple marriage licenses and having multiple spouses is not being challenged; as such a law is perfectly Constitutional since it’s applied to everyone equally and the state has a compelling interest to prohibit ‘plural marriage.’

    At issue in this case is the state’s authority – or lack thereof – to prohibit co-habitation, to dictate to unmarried persons with whom they may associate, and to interfere in how unmarried persons conduct private family life.
