Again not defending...but I thought about this.
A trauma physician learns over an extended period of time before they are allowed to operate on their own.
In a war scenario...you don't have that luxury. I would rather a goat be tested on than a live soldier get emergency care by someone with no experience in repairing a traumatic injury.
I don't like this either....rather barbaric...but what is another option?

I have seen those 'simulators' referred to in the article. They are in nursing labs all across the country. They are in use because nurses simply don't get the clinical training in hospitals they once did. But the simulators do NOT replace clinical experience. And they do NOT accurately simulate live people.
