Immigration has become an important issue around the world. It helped propel Donald Trump to the Republican nomination and was the defining issue that led to the Leave campaign winning the Brexit vote.

Currently, the United States admits 1,000,000 new legal immigrants per year. What should we do with immigration? Should we admit less? Should we ban it?

STOP ALL immigration of all kinds . At least 310 milliom residents in the USA at the 2010 census and that is more than enough . No one has the RIGHT to immigrate to the USA and third world non westerners are the worse type of people to come into for USA .

My position is that it all depends on the immigrant. Our country has always benefitted from the immigration of talented and intelligent people who end up contributing greatly to this society.

On the other side of the coin, when we allow people to enter the country who have little to contribute and who have absolutely no desire to do so or who want to undermine our western liberal values and replace it with their own primitive ways, we do not benefit at all.

I oppose simply on numbers . Added to that why would an American want immigrants with a different belief system like muslims working to change laws in the USA . Why would I want Christian English that believe in gun control voting for power in the USA so that they can change gun laws . Doesn't make any sense to me to allow immigration except in very limited numbers of approved people that want to assimilate to American ways , values and laws .

Immigration is like rain. It's beneficial until the saturation point. Immigration helped build the Roman Empire until the culture became too convoluted and incoherent to maintain an identity.

People are more mobile today, even the poor. It's a smaller world.

Of the 1st World nations, only the US and Canada grant automatic citizenship to anchor babies. European nations ended those laws decades ago.

So we shouldn't 'halt' immigration, but we need to take a fresh look at the issue and I think we do need to change some laws, starting with anchor babies.

800,000 immigrants to the U.S. land are high sum but Obama and Rubio and Hillary want's more than these but Trump wanna under.

This is my position along with deporting every illegal alien and then when a legal one commits a crime deport them to. Eventually find a way to deport ALL nonwhites and start allowing immigration from Europe and South Africa for Afrikaans again etc.

You are talking about US citizens.

Halt legal and deport illegal. No more until all US citizens are back on the up and up again.

If you're referring to the 14th amendment I don't think we should automatically grant citizenship to anyone born on U.S. soil. That should be changed.

The amendment was passed to guarantee citizenship to black former slaves after the Civil War. It was passed at a time when travel across the Atlantic and Pacific was much more prohibitive. So it's easier to exploit and the original purpose of the amendment no longer exists. It's an antiquated law that once served our interests but now has become impractical

Irrational. "Until all US citizens are back on the up and again" would never be achieved to the satisfaction of anyone emotional enough to support such a stupid idea in the first place.
