Should We Force Porn Actors To Wear Condoms By Law?

Cleveland. Feel mah pain.
Two of the porn industry's biggest companies have stopped production following the news that an actor has tested positive for HIV. Yesterday's revelation sent the industry—which eschews the use of condoms on porn sets—into a tizzy, as it attempts to track down the people who may have worked with the actor, whose name and gender have not been released, reports the AP.

Porn Star Tests Positive for HIV - Adult entertainment industry reels after hearing the news

What say you? Do we need a new law requiring condoms for porn stars?

Perhaps not a LAW, per se,

but it would be nice if the industry set a REQUIREMENT,

in order to protect it's personnel.

i.e. There's no LAW that cops HAVE to wear bullet-proof vests, but they're PROVIDED and ENCOURAGED.

How about we stop watching porn so the industry becomes unprofitable and they get jobs that are actually productive for society?

Lol, force? Nobody is forcing the other person to have sex with them. Why force them to wear a condom? Pschyco talk.

We do have laws against suicide and assisted suicide, YoungLefty. I doubt it is legal to film a sex act between an infected person and an uninfected one, deliberately. I have no doubt there are informed consent laws.

Ain't banning no-condom porn making the next logical step? Besides, condom porn would help encourage safe sex practices among porn viewers.

I'm uncertain, myself. I hate nanny laws...but if you have indiscriminate sex with 100's of people, you almost certainly will get HIV. Is it a nanny law to outlaw a death wish?

:eusa_shhh:

Please don't GIVE this idiotic Guberment any more STUPID ideas.

we have HAD enough of them already..

good grief.

Is it a stupid idea? Why? Is there some "right to die of an STI" I haven't heard of?

yeah, we are still a free Country, and if they don't or won't PROTECT themselves, than yeah, they have a "right to die of a STI. good grief.

It's already a de facto mandate in established companies that all performers receive regular testing.

Testing is great, but condoms are what a rational sexually active adult does to prevent a horrible death. Since some seem bent on ignoring this to further titillate the audience (in a way that may get them killed) why not legally require condoms on porn actors?

Ain't it a public health hazard for porn actors to portray sex acts without condoms for audiences of (presumably) impressionable young adults?

Moderation is good, but alcohol use can ultimately lead to abuse and a horrible death. Since some seem bent on ignoring this (in a way that may get them killed) why prohibition?

Why not outlaw smoking in movies?

:cuckoo:

Who needs free will? The Nanny knows better than you do...

Oh for crying out loud, what do you think a PARENT is for.

I don't think we should force anyone to do anything. We should simply not participate in bad behavior and thus drive it out of business.

Stop watching pornography and we don't have to worry about this. Not only that you dont have to worry about the corruption that happens in your own life.

If you don't think it effects you, just remember that corporations will spend millions of dollars on 30 second advertisements in order to convince you to buy their products. You honestly think that hours upon hours of pornography in your life doesn't effect you?

Same with violence. It eats at your mind and your heart.

I'm guessing here, Stephanie...but I kinda sorta doubt the porn actors have their Mommies and Daddies with them on set.

Well, Avatar, the redeeming social value of porn (if any) is a fun discussion I wouldn't mind having with you. But fact is, the industry exists, young American adults are getting killed by it and I am curious why no one else here apparently thinks that saving their lives is worth a modicum of titillation.
