Anyone who thinks this is a 'yes' or 'no' issue is too stupid to enter into a discussion about foreign aid.

do you mean just for the US or for other countries as well?

The US and UK are the only two countries whose spending is in any way relevant to me. Because I pay taxes in both.

As far as I am aware, we don't get to tell other countries how to spend their money.

i'm just thinking it's time for all those other countries to start supporting us. heck, we're so far in debt, maybe we can be the welfare country for awhile.

I tend to look at it this way. The vast majority of countries we help really do need that help - it is often life and death, or political chaos, to them. On the day that Americans are actually dying from starvation, you might have a point... while our poor have cell phones, color tv, cars, and a roof over their head, you don't.

If I was down to my last $100 and I could save a poor person from starvation for a $1, I absolutely would give it.

Compassionate conservative. That's me.

"The U.S. is providing hundreds of millions of dollars of foreign aid to some of the world's richest countries - while at the same time borrowing billions back, according to report seen by Congress.

The Congressional Research Service released the report last month which shows that in 2010 the U.S. handed out a total of $1.4bn to 16 foreign countries that held at least $10bn in Treasury securities.

Four countries in the world's top 10 richest received foreign aid last year with China receiving $27.2m, India $126.6m, Brazil $25m, and Russia $71.5m.

I'd be really interested to know what that aid is.

I think every dollar that our budget, well if we had a budget should be looked at.
We should cut across the board.Every one takes a hit....until those in government
stop acting like children who blow their allowance 15 mins after getting it.

And that's the key isn't it? No budget from the Congress in over 1,000 days...as Obama talks of raising the debt ceiling. Stay tuned for this melee/replay...

The only problem is that I between 65% of the budget goes to 3 things: (1) Social Security, (2) Medicare/Medicaid and (3) Defense! All three are scared cows that NO CAN touch without getting voted out of office!

You have every right to give away your money, just don't take my money and give it away. Start a charity, then those that want to can give and those that don't won't have to.

If you had $100 and could save a poor person from starvation for $1, and decided not to, you're damn right I'm taking it and giving it to him.

Your attitude requires a big gang with guns to actually make it happen.

Socialism at work.

Thank you for illustrating why taxation is violence.
