This is the case from Britain, the land of failed, socialized medicine. The baby in question has a rare disease that will end his life. There is a treatment that might save the babies life here in the United States...

The British Government has decided to kill the baby instead of allowing, yes, allowing the parents to take their baby, on their own dime to the U.S. for treatment......

How many of you pro-abortion supporters think that this is a good idea...that the government should have this power over the life and death of your baby?

And before you say that the government isn't killing the baby, since the baby will die without treatment.....they will not hand the baby over to the parents who want to try to save the baby with the treatment in the U.S....the British government is killing this baby...

Seems too cold to be true. Is the story legit? The family raised $1.6 million for the treatment? Honestly that is quite impressive on several levels.

I suppose the other extreme is capitalism where the doctor holds out his hand for payment before providing treatment.

In the spirit of your signature, I will ask if you are a socialist who thinks I should pay to treat their child if there are cost over runs?

In the bigger sense this is a problem more and more of us will face in the future as treatments become more exotic and we better decide how we want the country to deal with it.

Would you allow the child to come here for treatment knowing you may have to stop them if the family runs out of money? Are you a medical socialist?

The family wouldn't run out of money.....we live in the age of the internet....and those who already gave the 1.6 could be hit up for some more...and the medical professionals donate their time and effort all the time...they are not heartless.....the heartless ones are the socialists...funny that you don't see it that way....since they are the ones ordering the baby's death.

Very objectionable. Money available with any chance at all others should have never had the right to choose life or death of another person's child. The doctors told me that my son would be a vegetable even if he lived which they very fairly certain he wouldn't and they were wrong. Son is forty now with a son of his own. Only evil people would choose to be so cruel taking away that chance for those parents to try to find help.

Sadly, if we do nothing, this is where we are going as a nation as well. Think it can't happen here? Ask a Brit if they thought this could happen in their country last week. I am quite sure you will receive a resounding "NO WAY!" And yet, here we are...

I'm not understanding if they had money to pay for the experimental procedure why they were stopped. This is BS.

God Bless this precious child and his parents

One thing about a single payer system like what Britain has, innovation goes down the tubes. If we go to an SP system, those potentially life saving treatments won't exist in the future; who's going to fund the R&D, it ain't cheap. All those wonderful SP countries out there, they get their innovative new drugs and treatments from us. We do the expensive grunt work up front, but that won't happen under an SP system here just like it ain't happening now everywhere else.

Its pretty poor that you seek to politicise such a sad story.
The medical team have looked after this child and are more able to judge his condition than you are.
The courts have backed up their judgement.

Charlie Gard parents lose European court appeal - BBC News
European Court judges have now concluded it was most likely Charlie was "being exposed to continued pain, suffering and distress" and undergoing experimental treatment with "no prospects of success... would offer no benefit".

I dont know what I would have done as a parent but the hospital and the courts are batting for the baby.

Incidentally ,you wont know this, but Great Ormond Street is one of the most respected hospitals in the world.

Thomas.

The parents raised the money and want for the child to get treatment here.

Are you saying they are not entitled to a second opinion?

Who is to decide there is no benefit?

When have "judges" become the jury and executioner?

It's one thing for the gov't to tell the parents that they cannot continue treatments for their child because the situation is hopeless in their opinion. It's another to say the parents cannot take their child elsewhere to another country to receive a different treatment option there, at their expense. The 1st case is understandable, but the 2nd is not.
