The Gilgamesh-Epos is one of the oldes written stories of mankind. The current science about it says, that it´s written 24 centuies before the birth of jesus.

It´s very interesting, that this story contains many of the stories which are written down in the genesis, the first book in the bible too. From the creation of earth up to the big flood and noah´s Arch is to find just in the Gilgamesh book. But it´s a fact today, that the Genesis was written down first 1000-400 years before the birth of jesus. So it´s evident, that the authors of the genesis have taken many of their inspiration from this existing book, which was over 1000 years in existence bevor they wrote down the genesis.

What should that say?

First of all: The Story about Gilgamesh is very amazing, full of wisdom and truth, actual until today, for us modern people.

But...this is a kind of proof, that the "Bible" is not the "fallen from heaven" lawbook, many people like to see it. It´s a written book by many authors, full of pictures and analogies and it´s not useful to take it as a science or wordly truth.

These myths mixed with history were passed primarily by word of mouth for generations.

well, we´re in common sense. what i like to point out is, that the close look to the biblial words can´t be justified with this ordinary "Bible=Gods Word=Infinite Truth" mantra which is enforced by the creationists. The text of Gilgamesh is here a strong evidence that the Genesis writers have copied and varied many passages which were been ever meant as fictional stories.

I thin that essantially the same myths have been recycled and made to fit whatever society that needed them time after time for the last 6,000 years.

Ther Passion Play, for example, is very similar to other myths that preceded Christendom.

The only places religion is tought is in holy places, in homes and in religious schools, at least in America.

I doubt any of those will teach other myths as being part of thier religion.

Oddly enough I learned more about other religions in Catholic school than I did anywhere else.
