If your answer is no, please explain why the residents of the gulf coast should have to bear such a grossly unequal burden in the production of oil.

why? you haven't explained yet why 50% of us bear the cost of running the US of KKKA while the other fifty per cent of you bums don't pay for nutting, I don't think you should be driving down my freeway.

;)

For crying out loud, we are still paying for a damn Hurricane that hit Louisiana.

Aren't the residents of the Gulf Coast taxpayers, also?
And if BP doesn't pay, should we just leave it alone?
Somebody's gotta clean up the shit.

Bring all those leaches from our border states to do it :cuckoo:

So, how fucking much is this worth???

The oil hasn't stopped flowing yet, no way to tell.

For christssakes......"indirect effects????".
Yes.

Well you figure all that shit up, then get back to me, because I think giving $2.4B/yr for lost gulf coast seafood revenue oughta pay for some goddamn nice casinos.

Why do you think we need them? Not enough of our working poor throwing away their paychecks in them?

Tell you what, you just agree to not use petrol products produced by the sweat of Gulf coast labor and at, apparently, very severe risk to the Gulf coast seafood, tourism, and related industries, and we'll call it even. We'd also appreciate it if you didn't use any products shipped through our ports or sell any products through them, either.

wow, that takes some nerve. telling people not to do business with states because they live down there and feel like they own it or sumthing, typical liberal dumb shit thinking.

tell you what, you stop driving a car, heating your home, quit your job (cause I'm sure they use oil somewhere), Stop using electricity for your "computer" to whine on and move into a cave, then I'll call it even with YOU.

If you didn't want the city and surrounding rebuilt area I fail to see how you can use its resources without hypocrisy.

Freeways are mostly funded through gasoline taxes, which everyone pays when they use the road.

isn't it louisianna that wanted drilling in the gulf and isn't it louisianna that gets royalties from such drilling and isn't louisianna also benefitting from taxes on the oil industry?

if anything, you would think Florida should be suing louisianna for any damages they may get from this catastrophe?

Its actually everyone who uses petroleum who wanted drilling in the gulf.

more than half the country did not want drilling in the Gulf, and certainly Florida did not want it!

Does the Gulf oil get used by the people in the united states? I had read that much of our oil in the usa is a heavier crude that is harder to refine and the stuff out of the ground in Saudi Arabia is the sweet stuff our oil companies like...

of course that is my completely incompetent and ignorant interpretation of what i read somewhere....? I could be wrong....

There are refineries in louisianna and a super tanker dock to unload oil as well isn't there?

TRUST ME, your State pulls in the motherload, when it comes to the oil/refinery industries....with taxes and fees and jobs.....etc....this IS WHY your state has always pushed drilling in the gulf.

I am playing Devil's advocate here....but it looks like the Devil might be winning.... ;)

other states MAY benefit from some of the oil....a smidgen of what our country uses....but they buy it for no less money than if they bought it from saudi arabia....it is a global market and globally priced....

your state gets the royalties from the drilling and the taxes on these drilling and refining businesses....and the jobs.

Its actually everyone who uses petroleum who wanted drilling in the gulf.

I live in Arizona and dammit I want cheaper solar panels for my home and I want a damn electric car that doesn't cost more than my house and one that goes more than 50 mph.

this oil dependence is just horrible and we have to figure out how to get from under that boot.

WASHINGTON, DC, May 3 -- Three US Senate Democrats opposed to expanded oil and gas activity on the US Outer Continental Shelf introduced a bill on May 3 that would raise the liability limit for a company deemed responsible for an offshore spill to $10 billion from $75 million.

The measure is a response to the Apr. 20 Gulf of Mexico semisubmersible drilling rig accident and subsequent oil spill, according to its sponsor, Robert Menendez (NJ). Bill Nelson (Fla.) and Frank R. Lautenberg are cosponsors.

“We’re glad that the costs for the oil cleanup will be covered, but that’s little consolation to the small businesses, fisheries, and local governments that will be left to clean up the economic mess that somebody else caused,” Menendez said. “We can’t let the burden fall on the taxpayers—we should ensure that those who cause the damage are fully responsible. There is no such thing as a ‘Too Big to Spill’ oil well, which is why we need this economic protection in place.” ........
