One of my co workers ran me in this conversation today and convinced me human life is special. Well, I decided Hitler's life and the lives of morally repugnant folks were no longer special.

But anyways, if it is special then yeah, everyone deserves healthcare. The wealthy will always have better in home nurses and the like just because in real life there is a line society must draw, but since everyone can vote everyone is special.

Damn. That felt sappy.

Nothing wrong with sappy, but I don't think the view you present here is practical. You hint at one the key problems (the bolded part above). Apparently we can agree that miscreants like Hitler are "less special", and either don't deserve health care, or don't deserve it as much as others do. But what about less extreme cases. What about a 'normal' murderer? What about a child-abuser? Or - let's move away from criminal cases - what about the guy who chain smokes all his life and then gets lung cancer. Does society owe him health care? How much? What about the daredevil who puts himself into a coma with some crazy stunt gone awry? Do we owe him as well?

And most days I don't care if folks live or die. I just want universal healthcare so everyone HAS to pay to their ability ...

What should they be paying for exactly? Their health care? Their family's? All of society's?

I agree there are problems. Deciding who steps off the moral cliff is one. Who should decide.....I suppose it should be the current system, a jury and judge. Perfect, no. But while a moral issue thank goodness the population of death row is not so high.

Far as making everyone pay to eliminate the freeloaders, naturally the poor will have less ability to pay. What can you do.

Should dare devils be covered? I suppose the insurance companies could be allowed to sue folks who jump motor cycles though flaming hoops to recollect their costs. How do circus performers even in vegas get insurance? The company which produces a show like "Ka" must just pay through the nose for work comp.

I agree there are fuzzy grey areas which will always be up for debate.

So either way I guess we need more or less equal healthcare.

On that principle then you have to include food clothing shelter too!!
There is no end to liberal welfare programs!! They are more costly than ever now and yet Barry sees no shortage of new welfare programs coming up!! Who really needs to work nowadays.

Cool then. What is your suggested society going to be like? Someone runs out of money to pay a medical bill they get thrown on the street? Will you take them in? Would you take your mother or son, aunt and uncle in or let capitalism run its course?

Where did people die after a few years of being unable to work back in the high standard of living days of the 19th century.

Should richer people drive nicer cars, wear better clothes, live in better homes? Sure if they pay their own way, why not?

Agreed.

Some people apparently think nothing of a rich man having a maid, a chauffeur and a personal chef, but if he has a private physician everyone should have one.

First, some people complained that the rich were making too much money, and now they want to tell the rich how they can spend their money. What God damn difference does it make to the average person whether a rich man blows his money on another mansion or spends it to improve his health? Stop this nonsense !!!!

Jealousy in this country has hit a new low.

Perhaps one of you would be kind enough to tell what SPECIFIC medical treatments that only the rich are now getting, that you believe everyone else should also be entitled to.

This could turn into an interesting discussion.

I connected a couple of interesting dots today. My mother mentioned that she and my dad pay $25 copays at Kaiser, despite being on Medicare and paying extra for Part D.

A local doctor I know charges $40 cash for an office visit; he has stopped taking insurance.

So we have this giant government regulated and controlled industry designed to save people $15 per visit for which their premiums are $thousands and $thousands.

We'd all be better off paying for routine care and having insurance policies for truly catastrophic health issues. I pay for my own gas and maintenance for my car, with insurance covering accidents. Our "health care" system does little about care while inflating the price of insurance to cover minor items.

I THINK our back end socialist Eisenhower era healthcare system more or less gave everyone equalish medical treatment potentially on the public dime. This new one if the law was written right will more or less just make people pay for insurance when they can.

Follow up care with in home nurses and quality of extended stay facilities no doubt favors the rich. Lord, as a young man I towed cars from extended stay facilities of all types. Man were they different! But I dunno how to draw the line to equalize that or if we should. Folks need some incentive to work.

Sneaky things like who gets new kidneys and the like....I always suspected more wealthy drunks got more liver treatments but if there is evidence of this it is hidden. More a conspiracy theory.

And the difference between name brand and generic drugs I suppose could be applied. But its not night and day.

You need your own new topic, this is interesting!

I don't think that its right that health care depend on ability to pay because the hospitals are the same and also the doctors are same for both poor and rich's people. So I don't think there is any thing that differ them in health care services.

Let's be honest, Barry is a socialist and he wants everything to be divided more and more evenly. Health care is a matter of life and death so thats the logical place for them to start but socialists have never ever said they wanted to stop there!!
