Quite simple...Bush/Cheney base would not have tolerated their babies going to war in a country that quite clearly had nothing to do with 9/11. Once they realized Bush/Cheney cooked the intell books, it would have been all over...But it's a lot easier to support Bush/Cheney military junkets when it's not YOUR kids' blood on the line.
