If the mother knew of his issues and still didn't take precautions with her weapons then she bears much of the responsibility here, unfortunately for her that mistake also cost her her life.

But again, that isn't either the fault of the guns, or the millions of responsible gun owners, that she fucked up, if the stories are true and she knew of his issues.
