Severe fuel shortage grips parts of US southeast

I remember the "shortages" in the late 70's. I got out of the army in Nov. of 78 and a friend of mine got out in Jan. of 79. I came back to IL. he went home to Calif. We stayed in touch and he went to work delivering gas from the refineries. He would tell me of how he went to deliver the gas to storage stations and was told they were full. He was then told to take the excess gas to a burn off point and they actually burnt the gas. I still talk to him and evry once in a while we still discuss that idiotic waste while the public was told of the "gas shortage".
