Great news. NATO is strengthened, and the voices of countries who know about oppression firsthand will be heard in this alliance.

Bush Welcoming Seven New NATO Members

By SONYA ROSS, Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON - Russia may be quietly concerned about NATO (news - web sites)'s expansion, but the United States is not as President Bush (news - web sites) welcomes seven former Soviet-dominated nations joining the 55-year-old alliance.

Bush presides Monday at a White House ceremony to greet the prime ministers of the new member nations along with NATO Secretary-General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer.

With the addition of Bulgaria, Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia, Romania, Slovakia and Slovenia, NATO's membership grows from 19 countries to 26. The new members will take part in their first meeting Friday in Brussels. Three other nations — Albania, Croatia and Macedonia — hope to join.

Gee, and I thought we had alienated the international community.

I think NATO should kick the UN's ass.

NATO is already more relevant than the UN. Now we should seek to increase it's sphere of influence and get South Korea, India, Australia and Japan onboard.

maybe the UN should be regulated down, say to what was said in another thread. Birth control for third world countrys and such. Nah, they'd just screw that up too! Let them help teach countrys how to feed themselves, disease prevention, education programs , ect. just dont let them have any power over anybody, real or perceived.
