This was brought up at the local VFW. (5696)

If a UAV or Drone pilot operates out of the US, is it considered combat experience?

Thanks in advance.

Yeah.

It's still unconstitutional absent a declaration of war, though. Tell the boys at the post that and see what they have to say. lol.

The V requires service in an overseas campaign, or hostile fire or imminent danger pay.

Sitting in Vegas flying a drone in Afghanistan don't seem to meet any of that.

Actually, you and N_S are right. The CIA is considered a civilian agency. And most of the drone fling is done by private military contractors. They aren't considered combatants.

So, yeah, I stand corrected.

Though, I do reserve the contention that there should be a declaration of war before anyone starts dropping bombs on anyone in another country. If you think about it, we hardly ever declare war. We just go bomb the fuck out of anyone we want. So, really, if there never really ever was a war declared, how can one actually say they're a veteran of a foreign war, even if they were rolling in an Apache?
