Sept. 11 Republican Fear-Mongering

Ok, I think that was a valid argument but:

The majority of US citizens wanted to send troops into Iraq for the entire 13 years before we invaded Iraq & well before the Bush administrations Iraq war propaganda.

I'm not so sure of this. I remember even in 2003, it seemed to be a hard sell for Bush as hard and long they were pushing it before it came to vote and actually happened.

By choosing to invade Iraq congress & the president followed the will of the people.

Even before the 9/11 attacks, GWB & Cheney Attack Iraq Propaganda, the larger majority of Americans wanted to send in ground troops to remove Saddam from power. Gallup Poll below proves this. Attacking Iraq was democracy in action.

Prior to 9/11 Osama bin Laden issued his fatwa against the USA justifying the attacks he was planning for us on 9/11.

Osama bin Laden's Fatwa against the United States

So Osama Bin Laden mentioning Iraq in his Fatwa somehow makes Iraq culpable for 9/11?....:doubt:

No. It just means our "No Fly Zone" in Iraq & our embargo against Iraq was cause for the attacks against us on 9/11. This meant that Saddam & the Iraqi government needed to be dealt with once & for all to set-up a legitimate government of the Iraqi people so the USA would not have to be viewed in the muslim world as a force oppressing that country.

111 Democrats & 263 Republicans in congress voted to invade Iraq. The majority of US citizens wanted to send troops into Iraq for the entire 13 years before we invaded Iraq & well before the Bush administrations Iraq war propaganda. We will have to wait & see if it really was the right move.

I agree that our interventionism was their motive for attacking us, but I don't agree that more intervention was the correct answer. Time will tell.

In reality they voted to give President Bush the power to decide to invade Iraq under certain conditions. It was not a declaration of war.

The following is an excerpt on why he did not invade Iraq in 1991 written by President G.H.W. Bush

" While we hoped that popular revolt or coup would topple Saddam, neither the U.S. nor the countries of the region wished to see the breakup of the Iraqi state. We were concerned about the long-term balance of power at the head of the Gulf. Trying to eliminate Saddam, extending the ground war into an occupation of Iraq, would have violated our guideline about not changing objectives in midstream, engaging in "mission creep," and would have incurred incalculable human and political costs.....Furthermore, we had been self-consciously trying to set a pattern for handling aggression in the post-Cold War world. Going in and occupying Iraq, thus unilaterally exceeding the United Nations' mandate, would have destroyed the precedent of international response to aggression that we hoped to establish. Had we gone the invasion route, the United States could conceivably still be an occupying power in a bitterly hostile land."

About the polls:

Conflict with Iraq - Military Action Against Iraq

"a late August 2002 Gallup poll which found a bare majority (53%) in favor of "sending ground troops to the Persian Gulf" asked that group to suppose "that meant the U.S. would have a significant number of ground troops in combat situations for at least a year." Hearing that, support for sending in troops dropped to 41%, with 51% opposed."

Gotta wonder what if they ask if we had a significant number of ground troops in combat situations for between two and five years what the response would have been.

Too bad we didn't have a crystal ball.

For some moron to come on here and call Republicans fear mongerers becuase they speak of September 11 makes them very big assholes. Very big big big assholes.

lol is an asshole.

Not nearly as big of an asshole as the pseudo-conservatives (Liberal-war-mongers) who morphed the emotional rage of the country over 9-11 into justification for the invasion and occupation of Iraq by rhetoically lnking Saddam Hussein, Iraq, al Queda, mushroom clouds, chemical attacks, 9-11, mom and apple pie.

Assholes cost 4000 US soldiers their lives and countless Iraqis (not that they don't matter, it's just that we don't count um.)

We need to talk more about how the fear mongering was done that convicned 70% of Americans that Saddam was somehow involved in 9-11 and or involved with al Queda.

Good job LoL.

save your breath. I've heard it all before, and yet here we are,, fixing to do it all over again in Libya.. asshole.

We couldn't monger fear without a willing enemy. Muslims are doing their part to provide the fear that we then monger.

However, the Earth isn't cooperating as a willing enemy for global warming fear mongering.
